Frog pose is my weakness, I feel so painful to do 😵😂How about you?-
Teacher: @miss_sunitha ・・・
Mixing active and passive stretches into flexibility-based poses allows for us to safely work into flexibility without compromising stability.
The first 6 poses are active stretches - stay for about 8-10 breaths each. The last 3 poses are passive stretches - stay for about 3 minutes each.
A few things to note:
1️⃣ Activate the outer thigh of the front foot and tuck the hip under.
2️⃣ In this variation, the hips move back while the tailbone lengthens down. Notice the weight on the feet, try to keep them equal between right and left.
3️⃣ The tendency is to hyper extend the knee, sinking the entire weight on the knee joint. To prevent this, keep the knee caps lifted and thighs pressing up. You may not go as low, but it will prevent collapsing into the joints. Keep both the inner and outer feet pressing down equally to support the ankles.
4️⃣ If it’s hard to balance in this pose, the palms can be on blocks. If possible, try using the tricep to press against the thigh. Tailbone lengthens down and belly is in to keep the chest lifted.
5️⃣ Knees are wide. Use the outer hip of the bent knee (like in Warrior II) to ground hips down equally.
6️⃣ Keep this active by using the outer hip of both legs to open the knees to the sides. Belly is in and tailbone lengthening to the ground.
7️⃣ Make sure the knee is in line with the hips (not forward or back!), and the ankles are in line with the knees. Then start leaning forward while maintaining the hips directly in line with the knees. As we move to passive stretches, feel free to use blocks under the forearms or forehead to get comfortable, and breath through the discomfort.
8️⃣ Wiggle the hips as close to the wall as possible but keep the lower back on the mat. If the lower back is slightly lifted, place a towel underneath.
9️⃣ Wiggle the hips as close to the wall as possible. Notice if the knees feel hyper extended, work on pressing the thighs down and tilting the hips forward while lengthening the tailbone down.
Try not to force anything, work with the breath in all the poses. Above all, be patient 😉

You are what you eat! if you are health conscious, you might wanna consider what you put in your mouth💡My go-to immune booster is cold pressed juice from @yestokyo ❤️ It provides daily multi-vitamin, minerals, enzymes, and lots of good nutrients!

You guys know my milk bath portrait of Hannah had to include some kind of citrus! 🥛🍊🛁 Also, why are milk bath photoshoots only of pregnant women and babies? We gotta change that! Hands down one of my favorite creative shoots to date with acroyogi, @gypsyon__ and her boo, @pabloandnalu.perspective! Blog post in the works. Also, by a show of emoji hands, who is interested in a boudoir shoot upstairs at Gray? @gray_1908#jennaalexanderstudio#jennaalexanderphotography

I made it to hot yoga tonight & it was just the perfect sweat sesh 💪🏽🧘🏽♀️ Our #intention for class was mindfulness & this was definitely a reminder I needed in my life at the moment... I’ve been so caught up with being sick & getting better & work, I honestly have not been mindful of anything. I’ve been pushing through every day & although I have been focusing on #selflove I was not focusing on the mindfulness of it all! I’m finishing off the week strong & I hope you’ll join me in being more mindful in everything we do this week! I can’t believe Week 1 of #TIUloveyourbody is almost over! AH!

Sometimes I feel that my life has come to a standstill and I find myself standing in the space of possibility between my past and an empty void of unlimited potential- my future that has not yet taken shape. It is at these times that I can pause and find a deep sense of peace as I reflect on who I really am beyond the situations of my life. In the past, my heart has had the ability to expand beyond anything I could imagine and I have found joy and love so deep that it defies all logic. On the contrary, the experiences of grief and sadness have seemed so real that I thought I would never heal or see the light. As I stand in this empty space with the ability to create any future that I desire, I feel some fear of the unknown, but in my being I know the truth- that whatever brought me here must lead me home. And so with courage, I allow my life to fall apart when it must in order for a new reality to take shape. And even though the path ahead may not be clear I have faith that I will find solid ground beneath my feet or I will be given wings to fly. For those who are reading, may your inner voice always guide you to the truth with ease, grace and humility 🙏 .

"She walks the earth freely, yet her feet never touch the ground. Many hands will reach for her, but she cannot be anchored. She belongs to no one, to nothing, to nowhere.
When you meet her, you will recognize her for who she is - a free spirit, a wandering star. She will fit in your arms like she was made to be there. And she will show you what it means to hold something you can never hold on to." ~ Wandering Star.

Another kick arse session taught by the amazingly lovely kirstygladdis Can't thank her enough for her patience, effort and time she's invested in me. I learnt so much from her. She certainly knows her stuff! .
Here I'm attempting the floating camel. A personal challenge I've set myself. I look forward to improving it! .
I sit. Everyday I sit. I contemplate. I chant. I manipulate my tongue to roll my R's into a much cooler version of the"d" sound. I wave my arms and hold my beads and crystals and I light candles and burn resins trace a mallet around the rim of an old brass bowl. Some days I don't feel like it and I get thru it like a chore or view it as a measurement of productivity. But some days.. that zafu...its a goddamn rocketship. Those are the good days. The days. I came here for. Sat nam.

Anything that we cannot control is teaching us to let it go. It is our thinking, rather than our circumstances, that determines how we choose to handle each situation. The mind is a powerful tool.
My dad amazed me every single day by keeping the dedication to his practice of meditation. Purpose always fuels passion & if there is one thing that I believe we should strive to do is to put ourselves on our own “to do list.” My dad was finally putting himself first & no longer focusing on what those around him would think of how he chose to fight his own battle. This was a lesson of wholehearted self-care. When I need a reminder, I come back to this moment… peeking an eye open to watch his stillness in amazement. It can take almost a lifetime to finally release selflessness & surrender to personal needs. I wanted to share this, in hopes that others will honor themselves sooner than later, before it may be too late. We can’t fill anyone else’s cup if ours is empty.

What happens to your iliopsoas during handstand?
1. If you want to train successful handstands you will need your Iliopsoas to work properly!
2. It’s the secret muscle that helps fully lengthen the spine.
3. It assists in aligning the head, neck, and shoulders, with the pelvis and legs.
4. The iliopsoas provides stability.
5. It creates a stronger core and base of support.
6. It creates a lever system to get hips over shoulders.
7. Don’t forget your glutes! They help the iliopsoas reach its full potential.
8. Engaged iliopsoas = strong core = well aligned legs & spine = SUCCESFUL HANDSTAND!
Try to find your iliopsoas during handstand and tell me what you think in the comments.
Not quite finding it? Need help? Shoot me a message and let’s set up a Skype lesson.
For the days that I live, may passion burn within me. Allow the excitement of life to course through each vein in my body. Enrich me with the knowledge, and the guidance, to pursue my greatest path. Most importantly, surround me with the brightest, most beautiful of lights; to protect me, heal me, and fuel my loving energy. Namaste 🙏🏼

If you have been following the dialogue regarding the recent cover of Yoga Journal, I think this has created a good platform for change. Even if you don’t feel like submitting an article to them, in what ways do you feel the yoga community has made you feel marginalized or voiceless? Personally, I experienced a lot of “professionals” that were extremely toxic individuals and made me question if I knew yoga at all or even wanted to continue practicing. They made me feel awful about myself and it took slot of courage to return to my mat. How about you?
