  • One thing traveling the world has imparted on us is a lasting empathy for people from different cultures. We as humans are really all the same, no matter where we are from. Everywhere you go, there are people trying to impress their crushes, parents disciplining their children, children playing a little too roughly with their pets, people trying to get in shape, people laughing, crying, people working to achieve their dreams. Next time you notice yourself judging someone, take a second and think: how different are they really? Every interaction makes a difference, and if we all try our best to spread positivity, the world will be a better place ❤️

  • Tomorrow evening, I am leaving for Vietnam - with no return ticket. I am traveling all over Southeast Asia for 6-8 months before I commit to teaching for about a year.... somewhere. My future is completely open. I am diving head first into the unknown of my life, and I have never felt so many emotions all at once. I am excited, nervous, anxious, sad, but overall.. I am ready. I have been ready. The ticking clock has been the worst part of this so far. I will miss my friends and my family but I am ready for the sensory overload of Southeast Asia and all that it has to offer. Will you be following along?

  • ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ᴍᴀᴊᴇsᴛɪᴄ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀Tarangiri National Park has so many of these beautiful inhabitants. What I liked about national parks in Tanzania compared to Nambia is that they don't have fences, so the animals decide freely to live there. If you're a budget traveler, you will have a hard time to find an affordable safari. Prices below $200 per day are rare. This might be demotivating at first but once you understand that only little goes to your tour guide because the government takes most of the money as entrance fee for the national park - you don't search for cheaper options anymore. I definitely recommend spending money for this unique experience ! • Have you ever been to a safari?

  • Aurora in Kitdalen, Norway. From the archives. A few years ago I went to Norway to see the Aurora, and one night we were treated to an auroral display for about 20-30 minutes that far exceeded my wildest imagination. Color of all shades rained down on us from every direction. It was hard to decide which way to point the camera. I posted a few of these previously, but have mostly been posting Milky Way photos. I am going to mix these in with some panoramas in case people are getting tired of the panoramas. I’d love to go back to Norway, but I doubt I’ll ever see anything as spectacular as that night.

  • Day 238: "The beach itself was lovely but the sound of the waves were far too loud, and there was too much sand" . . ----------------------------------------------------------- Have you ever checked out Google reviews for natural places of interest, i.e the beach? If you haven't, do. It's absolutely hysterical. We've also developed a love for one star restaurant reviews, especially when the restaurant replies with rage and/or a witty counter argument. Tickles us something rotten. It's just so good. Especially for restaurants we've frequented and know that their food is banging. Clearly we have got too much time on our hands but when you eat all your meals out, everyday, you come across a fair few snarky reviews. Here's a few Trip Advisor reviews we've read that have tickled us in the past 8 months: TripAdvisors review of Agra Fort, India: "Wow, who knew India had such rich history". Erm... Everybody? Of a beach "I wasn't advised there would be seaweed". Were they advised there'd be seawater? If it wasn't for the seaweed our favourite joke of the moment would be lost. What does seaweed say when it's in trouble? "Kelp!! KELLLP ME!" Of a Mexican street food stall "Be WARNED I was outraged to discover there was zero vegan options". I'm for one, am shook. Yesterday we went to "Paradise Beach" and aside from the fancy beach clubs pumping out what I'm sure must be the playlist for "the bad place", it was bloody lush. Despite all the seaweed and the clouds. Why didn't anyone tell us there would be clouds? Over and out, E x ----------------------------------------------------------- . .

  • Day 224: Like a pheonix from the ashes. . . ----------------------------------------------------------- Like a well made bread, I've only gone and risen. Again. I feel like we've used the old pheonix analogy a few times on this trip. It's been rather miraculous actually, yesterday I needed help dressing post shower and today I felt like doing my very own "This is me" Keala Settle sass march through town. Chris is proudly wearing his shiny "Best Boyf Eva" pin badge again, after being my carer for the past five days, we've bonded in ways neither of us were expecting, or hoping, to. Now we can get back to what we do best, ambling. Today we ambled far and wide. Most notably up a thousand steps to an absolutely spectacular Church, Iglesia de Guadalupe, I've never seen a neon clad alter, nor a garden gnome nativity display complete with an actual running stream and flashing lights. I'm not sure what health and safety would make of the nativity display at Iglesia de Guadalupe but I for one LOVED it and would like one in my garden. If I owned a garden. They'd even made the pulpit into a little Wendy house, or maybe it's always like that. Maybe the vicar is the original Wendy and therefore must remain in said house at all times. There was actually a relative amount of sobbing going on in the church which made the overall wonderfully garish decor confusing at first, but then I thought if I were grieving, coming to Church and seeing such a delightful display would warm my heart somewhat. Chris' beard clippers have been broken for over a month now and frankly his beard is getting out of hand. He's a few grey whiskers and a belly like a bowl full of jelly away from being my very own Santa Claus. As I type he's desperately trying to fix them, so much respect, teach a man how to fish and all that. I hope your boxing day has been full of food, fun, love and joy. • Day 223: FELIZ NAVIDAD!!!! . . ----------------------------------------------------------- Well. Yesterday was a intense example of when expectations vs reality are wildly different. Like expecting your date to look like Pamela Anderson and being greeted by a small Peruvian goat instead. I've been absent on the old gram because I have been struggling with what I can only describe as an absolute puta of a period, which timed itself perfectly to throw a spanner in our Xmas works. Twenty days late. The son of a b*tch really wanted to take part in the festivities. I imagine if I'm sinful enough to get to hell it will be one everlasting menstrual cycle. Still, I'm very happy my womanhood returned to me, for a dreadful moment I thought I'd run out of eggs. Anyway, enough of periods, you came here to discover what Christmas is like in a largely indigenous Mexican town, and I'll tell you my friend. Like legit any other day. With the exception of midnight,Christmas Eve where the whole city lights UP with fireworks, you'd have no clue it was a special day. Not a bauble or even a pinata in sight. The streets were full with Mexicans going about their business, shops flogging their wears and restaurants packed with locals and tourists alike. It was great for us, two loners longing for home, the perfect distraction. So we pottered, supped on hot choc and people watched, later on snuggling down in our bunk to watch Monsters Inc, that Christmas classic. Considering my health, the high expectations we'd had for a Mexican Christmas and how much we've been missing home, it was the perfect day. • Day 200: Have you ever spent 200 days solid, every single breathing, sweating, pooping, panting, loving, sleeping, laughing, crying, yawning, aching, smiling moment of every single day with one other person? . . ----------------------------------------------------------- Because I have and its been awakening. Wanna know what love is, its being able to travel like we have and still wanna rofl day in day out. We've been doing a spot of reflecting on the past 200 days, and thought it was a good time to give you the spark notes edition of where we've been in the last six months. So drumroll please: We've seen mad funeral ceremonies in Sulawesi, swam with Manta Rays in Flores, walked with dragons on Komodo, beached in Lombok, threw a few paddies in Gili Meno, climbed volcanoes in Java, saw orangutans in Kalimantan, hated Kuala Lumpur, shat our way through Ho Chi Minh, cruised the Mekong Delta, sunbathed in Mui Ne, met tribes people in Da Lat, saw palaces and hospitals in Hue, got tailored in Hoi An, observed the Chinese invasion in Da Nang, was awestruck in Ninh Binh, chilled in Hanoi, rode a motorbike through Ha Giang Province, ate Hanoi, templed our asses off in Bangkok, boutique shopped in Galle, swam with turtles near Unwatuna, bossed DIY in Welligama, ate lobster in Tangalle, hated Ella, got fogged in Haputale, had a mad tuk tuk driver in Kandy, observed a mad Buddhist festival in Habarana, got spooked by cows in Nilaveli, pottered Fort Cochi, got wet in Kottamangalam, stretched in Aluva, ate Cochi, spotted wild elephants in Munnar, turned 30 in Marari, and again in Kottayam, ate eggs Benedict in Pondicherry, got spooked in Auroville, chilled in Goa, Taj Mahaled in Agra, saw palaces, colour and camels in Udaipur, Jodhpur, Pushkar and Jaipur, slept in Delhi, walked miles in Hong Kong, people watched in Santa Monica, and finally, currently loving Mexico City. Heavens to betsy, worra trip. The snap is of us, doing the best thing we've done, biking the Ha Giang Loop. Over and out E&C ----------------------------------------------------------- . .
