  • Welcome guys, this transformation post really means a lot me.. Besides loosing 40LBS something life changing happened to me: I became STRONG! 💪🏽 My journey was a beautiful mix of: „I‘M GIVING UP!“, sweat, chocolate, impatience, cheat meals, self doubt, selflove, patience, acceptance and consistent training... 🌈 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s something I wish I could tell my very lost self at the beginning on my fitness journey: „DON‘T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF“, DON‘T RUSH, BE PROUD OF FACING YOUR AXIENTY, BE PROUD FOR TRYING!“ 👊🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My mental health was miserable when I started my fitness journey. I didn’t knew who I was, I was scared by the gym, scared of judgment, I couldn’t fit in any of my pants. My body felt tired and heavy and I my whole self got WEAK. I‘m so proud of you guys for hustling in the gym, but I REALLY want you to remember: it’s all about MENTAL HEALTH, your overall BODY FEELING and SELFLOVE!!! 💕 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want u to know that it’s about how you feel on the inside. Appreciate everything you do in order to live a healthy life. Appreciate your hours in the gym, don’t chase a „body goal“ that simply WON‘T MAKE YOU HAPPY! ☝🏽 If you enjoy eating, do so! Don’t try to loose 50LBS to get those abs. They WON‘T make you happy in the long term. I‘ve been there too, and I enjoy my current physique SO MUCH MORE than seeing my abs everyday 👀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I‘m on my way to gain more muscle and weight since I‘m currently bulking to achieve thicker legs. And I really ENJOY eating more!   • New year - same healthy food pyramid friends 🙏🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With the rising number of people adopting a vegan lifestyle it’s important that we understand the word ‘vegan’ is not synonymous with ‘health’. That is why you see medical doctors now referring to a healthy vegan diet as WFPBD (whole food plant based diet). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The purpose of this food pyramid is to highlight what a healthy vegan diet looks like, being made up of all or mostly whole foods rather than processed package foods, processed oils and mock meats. The pyramid gives you a guide as to what food groups to concentrate on and the recommended serves of each which have been calculated to ensure adequate nutrient consumption for the average person. Of course, the exact number of serves will differ depending on your age, physical activity levels, performance goals, if you’re pregnant etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are not consuming these recommended food groups I would suggest trying to incorporate them where possible or if you simply can’t due to intolerances/allergies see a Nutritionist/Dietician/Naturopath etc to work out how you can possibly better your tolerance or make up for leaving them out of your diet. And don’t feel like you need to make the change over night. Small steps is perfectly fine - just google “whole food plant based recipes” and each day your confidence will grow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Finally, even if you’re not Plant based or not intending to ever be this pyramid is still handy for helping you choose what type of plants to focus on.   • Choosing the right bread is damn confusing & to be honest that’s how many of the brands want it to be! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You see most bread is made from refined flour yet they use clever keywords & designs to trick you into thinking they’re made from unrefined whole grains. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To maximise your whole unrefined grain consumption look for bread where the first ingredient is one of: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whole wheat flour Whole grain flour Wholemeal wheat flour Wholemeal grain ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ NOT something where the first ingredient is: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wheat flour ... (equals refined) ❌ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I would also double check the fibre per serve is over 5g per serve. As a rule of thumb this tells you the brand has used 60% or more whole grains in their bread recipe (it usually says in brackets & obviously the higher the better). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What about high fibre white bread for picky kids? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is better than white bread BUT to be honest true whole meal bread offers more nutrition so where possible encourage your kids to have this and soon they will grow to enjoy it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What about making a whole meal bread at home? If you have time then yes this is a a great way to ensure the maximum amount of unrefined grains are used. Just google whole meal bread recipe. Is all bread that’s brown in colour whole unrefined grain based? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No, absolutely not. Another trick brands use is using food dye & other additives to make the bread look brown. Always check the label as per above to see the first ingredient, the % of whole grains & fibre content to determine if the bread is truly a healthy option. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For those who are gluten intolerant or coeliac: The standard gluten free loaf, made from non gluten containing flours, is typically much lower in fibre & nutrition compared to whole wheat breads. If you opt for a gluten free bread choose one with added seeds or nuts as that boosts the nutrition.   • Lets talk motivation! I’ve had a few people asking me how I stay motivated to keep going when it comes to exercise. I want to say it’s easy, but to be honest it’s taken me almost 10 years to be as motivated as I should be. I’ve always been overweight and unhealthy. But after trying and failing so many times, I finally woke up one morning and decided that enough is enough. I’m so tired of looking at other women around me and saying, “Maybe I’ll look like that one day” or “wow my life would be so much easier if I looked like that”. I’ve compared myself to others for far too long now. I love that this beautiful and amazing vessel has taken care of me for almost 23 years now, but it’s time for an upgrade. . . . While the weight loss is amazing, it’s a lot more important to me that I live a healthy and abundant lifestyle. I want to know that I am doing every thing I can to live a long and healthy life! . . . What healthy habits have you picked up with the new year? What are some of your goals?   • One meal - 46% of micronutrients achieved for the day, 42g of plant protein (with a great spread of amino acids, swipe left to see), 8g of fibre and just over 100% of the RDI of omega 3 fats. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Time to prepare: 5 minutes ⏱ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Is orange juice good for you? If you squeeze your own and make sure to keep the pulp (rich in flavonoids which are molecules that protect our Space Suit). Avoid overly processed orange juice whereby concentrates are added and pulp is removed - they may look healthy but really you’re better off juicing your own where possible! Last time I juiced an orange juice it was very simple! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you want to get insight into the nutrients you’re consuming I recommend using the Cronometer app (free version has more than enough features). It’s a nice way to start to get a feel for what nutrients are in certain foods which then helps you with your meal creations! Food truly is medicine and the more you understand what’s going on your mouth the more control YOU have of your own health rather than just leaving things to chance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Finally, looking to shed some kilos or gain weight? Remember this comes down to energy in versus out... ultimately the energy balance. So despite what the keto ads or fat burning supplement companies want you to think... if you want to lose weight eat healthy foods and put yourself in a calorie deficit. If you want to gain weight eat healthy foods and put yourself in a calorie surplus. I recommend, regardless of your weight goal, you keep your plate as whole food plant based as possible and low in saturated and trans fats as this is what the broad body of evidence suggest is going to promote longevity and help you thrive. I have a blog on this at plantproof.com called macronutrients & calories. People don’t want to tell you this stuff because as long as you focus on the ‘product’ and not the ‘principal’ you’ll continue to rely on them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Simon 🙏🏼

I’ve been on the road for work since Sunday night and was feeling absolutely exhausted by the time got back to my hotel room after my client dinner. I still managed to pick myself up off the hotel room bed, push my laptop and emails aside, drink down some pre-workout and get my blood flowing and you know what?! I had a pretty awesome workout and even managed to make some work calls to China 🇨🇳 while finishing up PWO Cardio. And I admire all who find that is their passion! 🙌🏼 I fell in love with bodybuilding because I loved the idea of having my best body possible, determined by how hard I was willing to work! (While not harming innocent animals)! 💚 And I was a bad swimmer anyway. 😂 I haven’t had a coach for over 2 years now. I’ve done my best to hold myself together and train consistently through some pretty tough times; between moving, divorce stuff, restarting my business and injuries. When Bieber was in his prime and my haircut matched, you know this kid was pulling girls left and right. Truly my peak. - 🍉 Yeah, actually no. Not at all. I had little to no self confidence and I looked like a twig. I spent most of my time playing video games. I TEXTED a girl asking her to go out with me.....as she was sitting directly next to me. Needless to say, my Justin Bieber impersonation didn't do shit. - 🥑 And the right is what almost 4 years of consistent lifting can do.   • ⁉️Q&A: Is soy bad for thyroid?⁣ ⁣ This is a topic that was very interesting for me when I tuned vegan. I was diagnosed as hypothyroid when I was 12 and need to take medication since then. Soy can have an effect on thyroid hormones, but not for everyone. ⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 There is no evidence that soy has a negative effect on thyroid function in healthy individuals who consume sufficient iodine (iodine is a component of thyroid hormones). ⁣ ⁣ ❗️However, soy food (as many other foods do) can decrease the absorption of thyroid medications. For this reason, people suffering of hypothyroidism may need to adjust their medication dose. It is not necessary to avoid soy.⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 People who have subclinical hypothyroidism – people who aren’t hypothyroid but are likely to become hypothyroid because their thyroid gland has to work very hard to maintain a healthy thyroid hormone level – have a 3-fold increased risk to become hypothyroid when they consume about 16 mg phytoestrogens a day (amount contained in about 50 g tofu or half a cup of soy milk). However, consuming this amount of phytoestrogens had also a beneficial effect, as it reduced insulin resistance and blood pressure in people with subclinical hypothyroidism. ⁣ ⁣ Take home messages: ⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 If you are healthy you don’t need to worry about soy’s effect on thyroid function⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 If you are hypothyroid, you may need to adjust your medication does⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 If you have subclinical hypothyroidism, you have to choose what is more important for you; not consuming soy and hoping that you won’t become hypothyroid or consuming soy (as the likelihood is high that you will become hypothyroid anyway) and benefit from positive effects on insulin and blood pressure if you have problems with it. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Side note: newborn infants with inadequate thyroid hormone production should not consume soy. ⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼❓ Have you ever been concerned about the negative effect of soy on your thyroid? ⁣
