  • “We all do what we think is best. Sometimes we make terrible mistakes, sometimes we do the right thing. Sometimes we never know. We just have to hope” ― Jennifer McMahon, The Winter People . . . . West Hall is a small town in Vermont with an ancient horror history. There were lots of local tales about disappearing people and bringing people back from the dead. Around 1908, Sara Harrison has been found dead at her back yard. Her diaries have been found and released as a book but the last pages of it were missing. In today’s time, Ruthie’s family lives in Sara’s old house without any clue of who the original owner of the house was. One evening, her mom Alice vanishes and as she and her sister tries to look for her she discovers Sara’s diary under the floorboards of Alice’s room. The story and more secrets continues to unfold as she tries to look for her mother. . . . Putting this book under my 3rd book challenge known as the “Publisher” prompt! I didn’t know this book had a lot of hype/publicity when it was released. I must say I did enjoy it! It’s a classic ghost story of mysterious strange old legends in a rural town. For me it was fast paced that begins assuringly. The narrative of the plot was well written and gripping that you can’t get enough of. I find it a bit similar to Hex by Thomas Heuvelt. What started as a random pick-up for a buddy read turned out to be a surprisingly good read. . . . . Have an awesome Friday! . . . #decemberbuddyread #buddyreads #winterpeople #jennifermcmahon #evolveintobooks

  • [anzeige] “Oh! I am delighted with the book! I should like to spend my whole life in reading it.” - Northanger Abbey, by Jane Austen. ・・・ Do you also think glasses make some people look smarter? The first thing I thought when I tried my new glasses by @pixeleyewear was that now people won't necessarily have to talk to me to find out that I'm smart. And if they read this, they won't have to talk to me to find out I can be smug, either 😉 Now, picture the scene of me reading a classic while wearing my glasses and there you have it, enough material for a pseudo journalist to write a ranty article about the shallowness of bookstagram. But I digress. Today I wanted to talk about classics. And glasses. These are not quite for reading, but since I've been wearing them 8 hours a day, you could say they're my new best accessory. These computer glasses by @pixeleyewear filter out the strong blue light that comes from screens and eliminate glare to prevent eye strain or headache. Less eye strain from work = more reading time at home! ・ And speaking of reading and classics, this hasn't been a great year for me and the latter. Part of me wants to read more classics but another part of me tells me that it's not a good idea to force myself or I won't enjoy them. See? Told you I'm smart. Hopefully, Jane Austen will help me getting back into the groove. Do you often read classics? If so, which are some of your favorites?

  • Are you a believer or a cynic? As you open the book, this question strikes a chord with your subconscious mind and coaxes you to do some mental gymnastics and ruminate upon your own beliefs! The author has done a marvelous job in bringing out such an amusing story. The perfectly knitted storyline gets you oodles of amusement, surprises, and deserves all admiration. The standard of coherence and the bar of the language are set high. The smooth flow of the narrative binds the reader. Certain bewitching lines such as- “ LOVE IS DREAMING THE IMPOSSIBLE”, “TIME IS THE BEST HEALER” to name a few, holds your heart. The best one is A THOUSAND GOOD DEEDS MAKE A MIRACLE. It instills in me the faith that yes, a series of kind deeds are bound to give you a favorable outcome- a miracle! The narrative spell bounds at the climax when the truth unveils before Akshara. How far can the figments of your imagination take you? How can love strengthen your beliefs? • One of my recent reads, Roar reminded me how much I enjoy short stories. Witty and original tales in bite sized chunks - perfect! • Roar is 30 stories about women, with titles such as The Woman who was Pigeonholed and The Woman who Slowly Disappeared this book entertainingly looks at women’s experiences and magnifies them in a very literal way. It makes for a funny read that I enjoyed a lot. • I’ve seen this book on Instagram a lot, who else has read it? • #roar #ceceliaahern

  • Even if we never pity them at any other time, and in any other way, we should pity the dead when we look at them, and touch them. Pity is the one part of love that asks for nothing in return and, because of that, every act of pity is a kind of prayer. And dead men demand prayers. The silent heart, the tumbled nave of the chest unbreathing, and the guttered candles of the eyes—they summon our prayers. Each dead man is a temple in ruins, and when our eyes walk there we should pity, we should pray. - Shantaram, Gregory David Roberts

  • Some Christmassy vibes for you all ✨ 🙈 . . So, short stories. You'll never find me completing one at a go. You'll never find me adding it as a current read. You'll never find me in a rush to finish it. A book of short stories is like a box full of different flavours of chocolates (I'm not particularly crazy about chocolate but that's not the point here 😬)—for me, it can easily last for a few months or even a year. Could be more 🤷🏻‍♀️ . . I feel if you're trying to inculcate a reading habit or giving a new author a chance, opting for a short stories collection is the best way to go. . . ⏩What are your thoughts on Short stories? You can also recommend me your favourites. 🦉 . . Have a great weekend! 🎈 . . #bookster #bookcover #weekend #bookstagrammer #weekendreads

  • Book Review 🍁 I always had a fear of classics for some reason and never understood people's love for a classic novel. Hence, I decided to give it a try as without reading them I would never know whether I'm going to like it or not. So, from now onwards I'm gonna read one classic book every month. This is my first and I had an okay experience with it. Neither did I enjoy it a lot nor did I dislike it, it comes somewhere in between. At one point I felt like telling the old man let the fish go away because I could not take it. But isn't life the same, where something goes up and above your tolerance level and you just want to get done with it asap, but there are some people who enjoy fighting and making things a little more difficult yet go on to reach the shore just in time with a smile on their face. Well this book talks about that - survival of the fittest and never giving up that attitude. Also the fight between the nature and the human being. How they contradict and compliment in their own way! Are you a fan of classics? And which was your first book? Rating - 3/5 ⭐ #classicfiction #theoldmanandthesea #ernesthemingway #bookreview

  • Ending the day like I started it: with my friend’s homemade macarons, coffee, and a book. Also Francie Nolan is always with me. She’s been sick but tonight I think she’s feeling a little better. • It feels like forever since I’ve read a book but in actuality it hasn’t been a week. I’ve missed you, my friend! The days seemed like years! • I did listen to two audio books though, I started and finished one in a single day! I haven’t ever had a yearly reading goal, but I just met my Goodreads challenge. Congratulate me and then tell me what your goal is and if you’ve reached it yet!

  • ❖ “Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all.” — Henry David Thoreau —————————— What was the best, or most memorable, book that you read in 2018? I've read a handful of great books this year as well as some flops. Most recently, I enjoyed The Female of the Species and The Handmaid's Tale. This year, I did not care for Bonfire or Crazy Rich Asians — I KNOW, unpopular opinion there. Not only could I not finish reading CRA after about 120ish pages, I couldn't finish the movie within the first twenty minutes. It's not what I expected and I wasn't connecting with it like I hoped, and I didn't want to invest any more time into it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Currently, I'm so engrossed with Kushiel's Dart and nearly to the end. I haven't even picked up The Song of Achilles to start. Oops 🙊 In fact, I'm debating if I even want to start it right away or if I want to put it off for longer. I feel like it's not going to grab my attention like I want. —————————— 🎶: St. Elsewhere | Gnarls Barkley

  • I love a good steamy romance every once in a while. I was going to say that I don’t read them often enough, but that’s not exactly the truth. In my twenties I went through a phase where I read them almost exclusively to the point where they got really old and I couldn’t stand them. So now I save them for when life gets especially busy and hectic and I need a book that’s truly an escape.

  • The Woodcutter by Kate Danley . Deep within the Wood, a young woman lies dead. Not a mark on her body. No trace of her murderer. Only her chipped glass slippers hint at her identity. The Woodcutter, keeper of the peace between the Twelve Kingdoms of Man and the Realm of the Faerie, must find the maiden’s killer before others share her fate. Guided by the wind and aided by three charmed axes won from the River God, the Woodcutter begins his hunt, searching for clues in the whispering dominions of the enchanted unknown. But quickly he finds that one murdered maiden is not the only nefarious mystery afoot: one of Odin’s hellhounds has escaped, a sinister mansion appears where it shouldn’t, a pixie dust drug trade runs rampant, and more young girls go missing. Looming in the shadows is the malevolent, power-hungry queen, and she will stop at nothing to destroy the Twelve Kingdoms and annihilate the Royal Fae…unless the Woodcutter can outmaneuver her and save the gentle souls of the Wood. . This story is perfect for the lover of fairytale, magic, and myth. Kate Danley effortlessly intertwines, Germanic, Nordic, and Celtic myth seamlessly. I love this book and probably will reread it again soon.

  • This is probably going to shock a lot of you as I know it is a popular read - I was not a fan of The Wedding Date. 😔 One of the things I enjoy about book reviews on Instagram is falling into the hype and buying the popular read which is definitely what we did in this case. I saw this on many favourites of 2018 list and I am SHOCKED. I am going to start with the positives - I loved the main character being a beautiful curvaceous woman of colour! ✊🏽It stood out to me as it was not expected but thoroughly appreciated. It is also a light hearted beach read which many enjoy as a break from some heavier and more difficult stuff, you need the balance! The story is about an ambitious woman named Alexa who meets Drew in the elevator they get stuck in and their instant chemistry. He convinces her to be his pretend girlfriend and come with his as his date to the wedding of his ex-girlfriend. They obviously end up falling for each other in the end. The story in general was way too cheesy and predictable in my opinion. I am all for a good rom-com but I needed more to the storyline besides a wedding, long distance relationship and a lot of raunchiness. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I would love to hear your thoughts on the book even though it was a thank you, next over here! 👋🏽 . . . #bookstagram #bookclub #booksofinstagram #bookblogger #bookaholic #bookworm #books📚 #booksmart #booknerd #booknerdparadise #unitedbookstagram #booksandbougie #theweddingdate #romancenovel #jasmineguillory

  • ¡Hola booklovers! Interesante ¿no creen? 😏🙌

  • Hiya kiddos, Happy Fri-YAY! . . I cant believe that my birthday is tomorrow.. like what! I am turning 25 and that actually blows my mind. Especially because I can still pass for a 13 year old 🤣 . . Yo I started and finished the audiobook for Sadie by Courtney Summers and oml I am both sad and confused. I might've stayed up until 3am trying to finish the audiobook but it was worth it. It's so good I gave it 4/5 stars! . . Q: Pick a character from the book you're currently reading and give them a present. What did you give them? A: I finished Sadie but I would give Sadie a whole day filled with love and attention because my poor child deserves it. I would take her out to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner + Snacks. And take her to an amusement park and just spend the day with her.

  • This was definitely one of the more weirder books I read in 2018. I'm still not sure about whether I like it or not? 😋 . . As the story goes, a sudden epidemic of blindness plagues the city and everyone's quarantined in an abandoned asylum. And then, shit hits the fan. Perhaps I should reread this book once I'm a little older, a little wiser.
