So here were are, our last meal in China. We definitely saved the best for last.
We read online about this unique little restaurant called Huochezhan hot pot. A little treasure in the back alley of a traditional Hutong.
It is hidden in a little corner of the Hutongs, not too far from Beijing Railway Station. It was a little challenging to find, nothing from the outside would indicate there is a restaurant inside. You walk through thick black curtains into a beautiful covered courtyard. Not a single word of English is spoken and the menu in Chinese without the obligatory photos you see on most Chinese menus. Luckily the waiter and chef had a translator app on his phone and we were able to order a mixture of noodles, beef, lamb and veggies.
Also unlike the other hot pots we have been to, there isn’t a gas burner anywhere to be seen, instead the pot is heated by hot coals which sit in a cone in the middle of the pot. Amazing!
Highly recommend this place if you want to get off the beaten track and find something a little different.
Day 13 - Bistronome by Flo
So tonight is our last night in Beijing (although we don’t leave till 11:45pm tomorrow). We have eaten Chinese food the whole time we have been here except for @pizzahut one day when we just needed something western.
Albert did some research on line and Bistronome by Flo came highly recommended. And it didn’t disappoint! I don’t normally post photos of food but this was delicious! 4.5 stars. You must get the Steak Tartare 😋
One of the things with China is that shopping malls are huge and they are everywhere. You can often find two of the same top end stores within a few hundred metres of each other. The restaurant was located at the China World Shopping Mall. It took us nearly 30min to get from one side of the mall to the restaurant on the top floor. Good thing we got a big walk in before the meal.
We were the last ones to leave the restaurant, which meant getting out was a challenge. We needed to make the last subway for the night to get back. We followed all the signs to line 1, but every time we got to a door it was locked. The lights in the centre were off and we could not see anybody around, apart from people on the outside “how do we get out” we tried to communicate with hand gestures? I think they thought we were crazy, we tried fire exits and all - no luck. We eventually found a security guard strolling the floors who luckily released us to the outside world! Thankfully we just made it to our subway. There was a little panic from the kids but there are worse places they could have spent the night with than surrounded by @prada@armani@gucci etc... #china#beijing#seechina#fenchfood#frenchfoodinchina#travelitaly#travel#kids#travelwithkids#my3boys💙💙💙 #seetheworld#culture#travel#cultural#trvlfy#tripgoodfr#yololttw#speechlessplaces#iamtb#travelrepost#familyadventure#familytravel#traveladventures#worldnomads
Day 12 - Houhai Lake ➿ We have ticked off all the key sites we wanted to visit in Beijing. The next three days will be spent doing some fun kids stuff and some shopping or going back to the areas we loved most. ➿ Top on the kids’ to do list today was ice skating. I’ve never been a fan, but when I realised you could use different types of 🛷 sleds, I was in! ➿ We caught the subway to Houhai Lake, this place is enormous! It’s divided into different sections, speed skaters, team sports, beginner skaters and recreational. Two of the boys hired skates and Joseph and I used bikes. So much fun and so may laughs with all the slips and falls 🤭. ➿ In the afternoon we headed to the Silk Road Markets. It’s a 5 story shopping mall filled with clothes, shoes, electronics, arts & crafts, souvenirs and tailors if you want to get something made. The price tags were insane so you need to do some serious bargaining! You could get prices from ¥1,000 to ¥100. We did buy some lovely paintings of the Hutongs from one of the local artists. Apart from the art and souvenirs nothing else appealed. ➿ We try and have a few hours down time in the late afternoon before we head out for dinner. It was Peking Duck again tonight as it’s Jamie’s favourite and we have found this excellent local restaurant that does a whole duck for only ¥168 ($40 Aus). #china#beijing#travelchina#houhailake#iceskating#lakeskating#travel#kids#travewithkids#my3boys💙💙💙 #seetheworld#culture#travel#cultural#travelfamily#familyadventure#kidstravel#trvlfy#tripgoodfr#yololttw#speechlessplaces#iamtb#travelrepost@natgeotravel#worldnomad#travelblogger#travelbloggers#familytravelblogger#familytravelblog
56 hours into fasting and I still feel great! Just finished a lower body workout and didn’t feel weak at all!
What is fasting?
Fasting is when you consume nothing but water black #tea or black #coffee
If you have not given #fasting a shot, then maybe look into it! I have adapted it as part of my lifestyle! Most days just do #omad but once a month I do a longer one! Looking to do 120 hours of fasting this go but will see how my body feels! I must admit but I enjoy the fasted feeling! My workouts are better and just overall a good feeling! If your thinking of trying it, I would suggest start small and then work your way up.
