  • "Les Gilets" | 2018.12.13 Gilets Jaunes can’t be generalized, as they lack homogeny beyond wardrobe choice. A strength -- and weakness -- of the movement is a lack of centralization; it's more an amalgam of grievances collectively representing the plight of the struggling class...and the middle one sliding back to meet it. There are passionate campagnards, progressive Parisians, angry youths, thrill seekers...young, old, left, right, violent, peaceful – variously seeking a better life, a different government, a free pair of sneakers, or a street party. 1) “Jaune Alone” | In a Tiananmen moment, a single man stared down a squadron hurling nothing but his heart, which seemed to find its mark; moments later the troops dispersed...the illusion of vanquishing Goliath moving the crowd to cheers. 2) “National Symbols” | The tricoleur, l’Arc de Triumph...and a vested man in gas mask? It’s not a hospitable tourism image, but an apt representation of France at this moment. 3) “Pere Noel” | When tempers flared a Christmas miracle was needed...and luckily one arrived! Santa Claus in shades calmed both sides with reasoned words and perhaps a threat of the “naughty” list. 4) “Les Misérables” | Many are drawn to Paris by Hugo’s tale (or the musical)...but not many live it. With police on one side, protestors on the other, a burnt car in the middle, and smoke raining from the sky it almost felt like a stage production; I was tempted to a chorus of “I Dreamed a Dream”...until choking toxic clouds brought me to reality. 5) “Smoking Skull” | After yellow vests fled the gas one last gilet emerged from the fog draped in a skeletal mask; a vision of death taking flight from Hades. 6) “Fanning the Flames” | With no vest, chiseled looks, and a flare for the dramatic, I didn’t know whether he sought justice...or a modeling contract. Nevertheless, with the flag, the flames, the shattered windows and other Gilets Jaunes beyond, it was too tempting an image to pass. 7) “Respirez Démocratie” | Tear gas fell over demonstrators in the shadow of triumph’s arch but Gilets Jaunes stuck together; sharing water, preaching calm, dissuading casseurs, and standing firm for what they believe.

  • Slowing down a bit is the best Way to close the year and prepare for Christmas. I love small Hidaway Hotels like the "Seehotel am Neuklostersee" near the baltic Coast in Germany. Cozy winter atmosphere, good fresh air, great Food and a SPA to die for. 😁 .. .. I absolutely had no time at all this year to read a full Book and digital Detox a bit. The Guide Michelin is a good Start. This Place is just great to recharge body and soul and prepare for the Christmas feast and a busy 2019. What are your Plans? ❤ .. ..

Vale a pena a visita! 💙🖼

  • At the altar, incense sticks burn a familiar scent into the air. I recognize it as one my dad has burned several times in our living room - a scent I often found overwhelming. . . . In this temple, thousands of miles away from our living room, I still feel overwhelmed; though not by the scent itself, only the resulting nostalgia. .

  • I love how cities transform, the old and the new and everything in between. ⁣ ⁣ Right in the heart of the busy city centre of Hong Kong, you will find Nan Lian Gardens. The tranquil oasis is quite surreal with the modern city skyline beyond the compound walls, as the buzz of the not so far away traffic hums. ⁣ ⁣ Somehow it manages to remain strangely peaceful and still.

  • I took a moment today in the chaos. A moment to just be. To not wonder or worry or run. To just sit by the ocean and feel small in this creative universe, to be truly humbled by it all. The beach has a way of whispering sweet nothings to you and all you need to do is listen. This place, this city has an energy unlike any other and all you need to do is stop and connect with it.

  • Doing my favourite runway in Bali! 😜 . . The iconic Bali Gates are actually the entrance to the Handara Golf & Resort Bali located in the village of Bedugul. Due to the booming sensation on IG lately, the locals charge you 20K Rp for photographs just in front of the gate area and, unless you go there quite early in the morning before they start operating their business, you won’t have any other option but to pay... so for those who want to save the fee, start setting your alarms very early! 👍🏻😁 _______________\\\\______________ #handaragate #lovebali

  • 📍: Yulara, Australia ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ 📷: @longtitude131 Don’t let the camping features throw you off. These tents (more like luxury cabins) come fully furnished with bespoke decor and fully equipped with modern amenities. Get a good night’s sleep in the organic-linen-draped bed or ‘rough-it-out’ on the outdoor chaise and fall asleep under the stars, you win either way. Each tent comes with floor-to-ceiling windows that offers a panoramic view of Uluru and the ancient Mars-like landscape of the great outback. It is also the only place in the world where you can swim with views of both Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Alright nuff’ said, let me grab my bags and meet you there.

  • On the @travelagewest editor’s blog: strolling through what remains of the ancient Grecian city of #Akrotiri on Santorini, which was destroyed by a catastrophic volcanic eruption in the late Bronze Age. . . “The city was strikingly modern (for the time): stone staircases were constructed within multistoried public buildings, and an advanced sewage and drainage system had been developed. Various fresco artworks with clear Egyptian influences help paint a clear picture of who these people were: sophisticated, cultured and accustomed to living a somewhat cushy lifestyle.” Read more by clicking the #linkinbio👆
