  • Hawaiian Food! One of my favorite things about wandering around the world is food! I’ve always have had a fascination with authentic food and the stories the food brings to the table. One of my favorite is the Hawaiian Lau Lau. Hawaiians consider Lau Lau their soul food. Lau Lau translates to Leaf, leaf. The kalo plant (taro) is important to Hawaiian culture. I’ll write about the story of the Taro in another post it’s one of my favorite stories. Both the leaves and the root are part of Hawaiian diet, and the plant has been intricately woven into every part of Hawaiian culture. The taro (luau) leaf is the essential Lau Lau ingredient which is very healthy and full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Inside there is usually pork, pork fat, butterfish and sweet potato. Although I’m not certain if some of these ingredients were modernized. The Lau Lau wrapper is a ti leaf which is a tough waxy leaf that can with stand high temperatures. In Hawaiian culture, ti leaves hold ceremonial and medicinal importance as they are regarded as having protective powers and believed to ward off negative energy. So imagine the all the positive energy in the Lau Lau along with all the nutrition it give you absolutely amazing for the soul. When I cook the Luau leaves I usually drink the tea or stock from it because it really feels as though I am replenishing my soul. 😊 Another amazing thing I love about the Lau Lau is the making of it. Each family member helps in the preparing assembly and the eating of the Lau Lau, kids even help harvest the Ti leaves. It’s amazing to see the bond that is created between families and friends while assembling the Lau Lau. The pictures are from our family aquaponics harvest off the Luau leaf. Absolutely amazing and my kids love it. It's so good just on its own.🤤 Another popular dish is the Pastilla which is a mix of sweet and savoury flavours traditionally filled with pigeon meat.also made with chicken, meat, seafood. 🍗🕊️🍤 Tagine is a clay cooking pot with a conical lid for slow cooking and damn the meat is cooked so well in this.we had the goat tagine with zucchini and thyme. ✨✨✨ What a meal!!!

  • Day 2- Woke up early morning , knowing today would be a long journey day we were all prepared for the journey.. after 2hrs of drive we reached the main gates at JARAVA RESERVE FOREST , where you can spot few jarava tribal people (clicking pics and video shooting is banned as the will be semi naked and they get angry if you do so) pic 1 is a view near gate at 5.40am. After another 2hrs journey inside the forest you reach the jetti to baratang island. We had already gotten our tickets through agent. . 🛥️🛥️Cross the river and have breakfast there. Speed boat will be ready to take you to MANGROVE CREEK , be aware of crocodiles here!! (Again speed boats were booked by our agent) after 10mins ride in speed boat you enter this amazing mangrove forest. . 🚶🚶From there walk 1.5km to reach to LIME STONE CAVES. Again we walked back to the boats and came to baratang island. . 🌋🌋30mins drive to this active small MUD VOLCANO , (again vehicle was booked by our agent, preferred agent because doing all these things are hassle free for us during the long days like this) this was my 1st volcano visit. It's a very small active volcano but worth a visit when you go to baratang. Place around it, is so hot and mud is overflown all over.. After visiting this place we had a decent vegetarian lunch at baratang island. Only one good restaurant near by. Food is decent and unlimited for 150rs. . 🛳️🛳️ After lunch we came back to the other side of the island where our vehicle was parked.
