Someone once said that a #home is a wise investment and the loan interest an even wiser tax deduction. They also said you can deduct up to $10,000 in property taxes and other state and local taxes.

Shakira has been charged with tax evasion in Spain, she apparently owes over £13 million. Between 2012-2014 Shakira was living in Spain but she had her official residence put down as elsewhere. Those who spend more than 6 months a year in Spain are considered residents who pay tax. Sources who are close with the Colombian pop star previously denied the allegations of tax evasion. Shakira officially changed her residence to Barcelona, Spain in 2015, however the Spanish authorities say her residence has been in Spain a lot longer than she has tried to make out, despite previously living in Catalonia she claimed to be living in the Bahamas full time. Shakira is reportedly worth a staggering £176 million, therefore this shouldn’t be difficult for her to pay back. She isn’t the only celebrity in recent years who has tax evaded in Spain. Footballer, Marcelo Vieira admitted to tax fraud in September, he then had to accept a fourth month suspected jail sentence. According to Spanish law a two year sentence for a first offence can be served on probation, so it isn’t likely that he will have to spend time behind bars. A judge has to decide whether Shakira’s case holds enough evidence to bring the matter to trial.

Let me tell you a story. A story I think most of my fellow international friends will reckon. I spent yesterday more than 4 hours in the Public Finance Office because there was a mistake with my taxes. I stood patiently in line, wore my best smile and polite attitude and made my best to understand whether there was a mistake with my taxes or if not, why the sum tripled since last year. I do not know all the French laws, but I am willing to learn that's why as a good citizen I came to inquire. However, I was never as disrespected and taken for stupid as I was yesterday. I tried hard not to let te inner b-word come out because I understand how stressful the public workers' day could be. But there is a time where we need to learn to ask to be respected and not treated as just an annoying file. I do not remember to ever feel like my eyes will pop out of my head because of the anger I was feeling. It spoiled my whole day, I cancelled my Friday night plans and vented my frustration to my friends and family over and over again. And now I ask myself. Why? Not really why? Is it worth it? The guy will not even remember me, whereas I lost days of my life. So to compensate, I decided to put color on me today and wear my best accessory, my smile. Have a great day everyone and remember, asking for respect is okay and demanding to be listened to is a right :)
