“I asked my mom to make a Sharkbait onesie when I told her the result of our 20 week anatomy scan. At that time we knew our baby hadn't developed a right forearm and they were sending us to Maternal Fetal Medicine to perform a more thorough anatomy scan and consult with the specialist who would be able to provided us with more information and resources. I knew very little, but I knew Nemo had a little right fin and our baby was gonna have a lucky fin as well. While waiting for our repeat scan, I started looking up medical journal articles and consulting Dr. Google. I stumbled upon Living One Handed, Born Just Right, Amputee Coalition, Stump Kitchen, Abshow and The Lucky Fin Project. The specialist never did provide us with very much information, much less resources. It has been the Lucky Fin Project that has diminshed any worries, fears or anxiety that popped up during my pregnancy.
We officially joined the lucky fin family on 12/6/2018 with the birth of our daughter Evelyn Rose. I've very grateful that you guys exist and the love and support you provide for all the Lucky Fins and their families.” - Lurah #luckyfinproject#limbdifferenceawareness#luckyfinsrock#tenfingersareoverrated#lfpfamily#notalone#celebrate#educate#support#unite#wonderfullymade#uniquelyunstoppable#finfam#beYOUtiful#nonprofit
"I am so thankful to you and your team of amazing leaders. Before I came to Camp Awakenings I was very insecure, I self-harmed, and I was always pretending to be somebody I was not in fear of rejection. The night before camp I had a panic attack because I was so afraid of being judged. The moment I set foot in that hall full of strangers, everything felt different. For the first time in ages, I felt confident among people I had never met. The atmosphere in that room was so calming and comforting yet energised and alive. Thank you so much for this experience. I am writing this now in my living room in Austria on Student Exchange, a place I would not be if you hadn’t taught me how to unlock my confidence. You taught me so many things over three days and the CA family will always have a special place in my heart." #StoriesOfCA#CampAwakenings
This is Sandy. I’ve had the opportunity to train her at One Love over the last 6 months. When we started she didn’t have much weight to lose but she wanted to feel stronger and build muscle. She definitely did that and dropped her body fat percentage in the process. That’s not the point of me telling you about her though. .
Over the course of the last few months Sandy has gone through some difficulties in her personal life, as we all do. During this time, our training sessions became therapy sessions. Each workout renewed her energy and reminded her of her power. On a few occasions, our scheduled workouts would become venting sessions where we would just talk. I learned so much about her and her remarkable life. A mom of 5 kids, a business owner, wife, and go-getter. English is not her first language and is still fairly new to her but her confidence and drive make up for it. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to not just train her but to be there for her. .
This is what personal training and teaching yoga is about. Connections. From one human to another. Its so simple yet so many of us miss it. We pass each other by, we look at people but often don’t SEE them. One thing that blew my mind with Sandy is that we come from very different backgrounds but are very much the same. And this is SO true for all of us. .
Grateful for this reminder of why I love what I do. I’m so grateful that I was led towards this path of being of service and helping others; having the opportunity to truly SEE others with an open mind and heart. .
At Reflect, we create spaces for students to come together, take off their masks, and feel the support of the others as they reveal their true selves! 💪🏻💪🏾💪🏿
Check back on Monday for our #motivationmonday post!
I knew early on that I was a nerd and that films were my refuge. Those first few minutes before the lights went off, and you're alone in the theater waiting, were really pleasurable. - Alfonso Cuaron #wethecreators
