Born in 1859 in Barcelona, he began to study painting in his native Catalonia where he had as teachers the outstanding artists Ramón Martín Alsina and Domingo Talarn at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona. When he was twenty years old in 1879, he left for Rome to continue his training, where he met Mariano Fortuny at the Chigi Academy, where they both cultivated a great friendship. In Rome he did not take long to succeed as an artist in such a way that he came to carry out commissions for Pope Leo XIII. Later, in 1895, he decided to take up residence in Paris, the true artistic capital of Europe. There, in addition to continuing his successful career, his studio served as a meeting point for many young Spanish artists who came to the French capital to start their careers. 🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀🏛 Share our Wonderful Heritage 🏛
Vedremo!
I started learning Chinese and Italian around the same time, so sometimes I compare my progress between the two. But they’re very different, and since I have previous romance language experience my Italian has taken off. I want to be more disciplined about my Chinese practice, and I’ve already started implementing some different techniques for that. I still work out of my textbook once a week or so, but I’m also getting into using language learning apps more (Memrise, Lingodeer, and Drops). I also need to get back into writing out characters on graph paper for practice. .

The Meadow of St Isidore⠀
By Francisco de Goya, 1788⠀
The tapestry illustrating The Meadow of St Isidore was destined for the bedroom of two young princesses. It should not had any erotic allusions- as poverty and erotism were not the subjects for the nobelty. Instead, ladies with parasols are protecting their pale faces- a feature of a higher class. Their cloths is less colourful than ones of the 'maja' who is serving wine. Gentlemen sitting behind the ladies are also men of a rank- their hair is beneath wigs, and their shoulders are not emphasized with epaulettes like 'majo' would wear.⠀
Despite the perfectly suitable content, Goya's design was never woven. Most probably because of the complexity and big amount of little details. After 10 years of working for the tapestry factory he must have known this, however we may assume he didn't have a concern in this. At that period he already started extricate himself from burdensome tasks like tapestry designs, and Impressionistic manner of this work can also be seen as a sign of protest.⠀
