An incredible encounter! As the sun set behind us we decided to wait at a small waterhole known for its evening visitors. After waiting for a while with no sign of movement we suddenly hear a rhino snort! It reinforced our resolve to stay longer even though the light was almost completely gone. Then, suddenly, movement in the bushes and a white rhino appeared with two others close behind. As they tentatively made their way closer to the water they stopped, spooked by something. Incredibly it was this mother Black Rhino and her offspring appearing from thick bush only meters away. Serendipitously the Black Rhino stood tentatively only long enough to capture a couple of frames of the moon rising behind them before the white rhino spooked and ran off triggering the black Rhino to also run back into the bushes and the darkening night. A truly special experience!
Photographed without a tripod, instead using a blanket on the side of the vehicle to lean on and steady my shot.
