  • Another view of Half Dome. I try to arrive on location an hour before sunset and start shooting in case sunset is a flop. On this evening the sky darkened as the sun set so this was as good as it got. If you appreciate quality landscapes please check out @awesternlens. My buddy Ben gets some very unique views and I think you’ll love his work like I do 😎 • 12/2/18. Canon 5d Mark IV + 16-35L III. 26mm, 1/100s, f8, iso 100, -1 EV.

  • 📷: This picture was taken at the bottom of the Grand Canyon after an 11 mile hike down to the Supai Indian Reservation. The hike took 10 hours under the blazing sun in the desert heat, with practically zero shade. Aside from being passed by pack mules bringing supplies to the reservation, and the one group of hikers on their way back, we saw no other signs of life the entire time. The utter and complete silence you find in remote parts of nature is addicting. I remember yelling down the canyon and hearing my voice echoing for what seemed like eternity. Once we reached the last 100yd stretch, we could hear the rushing of water as it poured over the cliffs and crashed below, and suddenly all the heavy gear on our backs seemed much lighter. Getting to this first waterfall felt like it took forever. I stood in this spot for a while, just appreciating absolutely everything- because there is no better feeling than putting in time and hard work, then finally seeing something for it. And this... this was really something. It may seem crazy, but 58% of Americans actually leave their vacation time on the table. Do you?

  • I’d never before seen a baby marmot until this day while trail running in Glacier National Park. I stopped and watched as its mom ate soil to get salt in her diet (marmots and mountain goats typically do this where where a human or animal has urinated). Hoary marmots (Marmota caligata) are diurnal and herbivorous, subsisting on leaves, flowers, grasses, and sedges. Predators include eagles, grizzly and black bears, wolverines, coyotes, foxes, wolves, and cougars. They live in colonies of up to 36 individuals, with a home range of about 35 acres. Each colony includes a dominant adult male, up to three adult females, sometimes with a subordinate adult male, and a number of young and subadults up to two years of age.

  • I've often used the expression "I'll cross that bridge when I get to it." To avoid worrying about the hypothetical downsides of my life choices. An optimistic hope that it just will work out. That I won't ever be confronted by that "bridge". We all have our bridges, be they metaphorical or literal. . . 📸: @crudemomblog
