🥾HIKING BOOTS 🥾 I’ve had so many of you reach out about what boots I wear. And, @hokaoneone Tor Ultra Hi Waterproof is my choice. Its only 14.7 oz and so plush! It’s like walking on pillows but stable enough for the toughest terrain. Comes in 4 awesome colors for women and men! Note: always do a half size to a full size up in boots to let your @smartwool have room! The boots are currently on sale on their website so check it out! Great holiday buy and one of 🎄WILD GINA’S FAVORITE THINGS🎄
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently. - Henry Ford ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With an alpine start at our heels, Thomas (@thegallantyak) and myself pushed out from the Whitney Portal parking lot in hopes of tagging the summit of Mount Whitney (the highest peak in the lower 48) via the mountaineer’s route. However, despite our best efforts, after hours of breaking trail up the approach and post holing through waist deep powder, we had only covered about a third of the distance and maybe half the elevation. We were not nearly quick enough to match our original plan of reaching the summit and making it back down to the car by nightfall. Not expecting such adverse trail conditions, we had originally planned to be fast enough avoid being stuck on technical terrain in the dark, a reality which seemed very unlikely given our sluggish pace. With no gear to bivy for the night, we made the reluctant call to bail. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For anyone who’s ever bailed on an objective, you can relate to the haunting regret that often ensues. All you tend to think about is whether or not you could have actually made it if just pushed a little longer, a little further, or suffered a little more. I must have looked back at the mountain two dozen times as we made our retreat. None the less, I standby our decision. All that’s left now is to simply go back and put her to rest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week, I’m in the Eastern Sierras. Exploring new terrain, learning, working on a few projects, and connecting with some creative folks. It’s important to jump out of your comfort zone - on and off the trail. I’m finding myself saying “I’m all in!” much more. 🤙🏾 P.S. I’m already planning my next trip out here. Nature is showing off and I ain’t mad! 🏔 Pssst! What’s up, Mt Whitney!? 👀
