Cozy mountain mornings 🏔
I’m not sure if it’s because it’s currently snowing or because it’s my last weekend with my little Guide Dog puppy in training JB (he’s headed to guide dog college next week) but I’m in full-on snug mode today.
The timing is perfect, really—I just finished The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living (amid dogs wrestling on the living room rug 😂). The book, which focuses on hygge, or loosely the art of coziness, has really got me thinking about how I relax. Instead of defaulting to going out for a drink, we’ve had more friend game nights. Movie nights are more intentional, with pillows galore, a carefully selected movie and, of course, snacks replacing mindless Netflix binges (okay we still have those, but also proper movie nights). And post-adventure wind downs involve more hot springs (or hot tubs) and laughing about the day with friends instead of going home separately to crash.
I’m not a hygge expert (yet), but I think I might be nailing it today. ✅ Watching the snow fall
✅ Fire roaring
✅ Snoozy dogs
✅ Sharing blankets
✅ Christmas tree lights on (last few days, promise)
✅ Looking on with awe at this happy little mountain life I’ve created ...maybe I’ll even make some stew.

Says she talks to [snow] angels ❄️ I’m not sure I’ve dreaded a Friday in a long time. Maybe ever? Even though I work in a mountain town, my job is pretty traditional in terms of schedule, so for me Fridays usually mark the end of the work week and the start of weekend adventures.
This Friday is different, though. This Friday marks the beginning of the weekend I know has been coming for over a year but still can’t believe is here. This weekend, I drop my sweet puppy in training JB off at the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus for formal training.
The drop-off has been part of the plan from the beginning. In fact, I wished for this day. When I held JB for the first time, I remember looking down at the little squish in my arms and saying, “You’re going to be the best guide dog in the world someday.” As a volunteer puppy raiser, you hope for the day your puppy gets accepted to formal training (aka guide dog college). You imagine what it will be like to watch him succeed. And that line about being the best guide dog in the world... you whisper that line to him every day. Even the days when he whines under the table in a restaurant or tries to steal a banana from the produce section at the grocery or bites your pet dog or bites YOU or almost pulls you over on a patch of ice.
Through it all, I wanted JB to succeed and believed whole-heartedly that he would. JB’s version of success has always meant leaving me and going on to change someone else’s life.
So why does this success feel like a knot in my chest. Why does this success make it hard to breathe?
It’s the Friday before the weekend I’ve hoped for. It’s the Friday before the weekend I’m simultaneously bursting in pride and fighting back tears over.
All I can do is breathe in and breathe out—like the methodical swoosh, swoosh of legs and arms making angels in the snow. *Swoosh...swoosh. Swoosh...swoosh. Breathe...breathe.* And with each set of breaths I remind myself of the life he will change.

my mom got us this cute snowglobe for christmas because inside of it is this little house nestled in the snow and it reminded her of our home here in the mountains. it’s beginning to feel like I am trapped inside of this snowglobe and mother nature is giving it a big ol’ shake. 🥶 send help, we are snowed in! #haveyoueverseen#thundersnow#januburied#again#mammothstories ❄️
I know you’re probably snow bored of my mammoth pictures but I promise this is the last one for awhile...(see what I did there 😉). You guys I couldn’t believe I actually enjoyed snowboarding, and was half way decent! It might just have to be my new hobby! 🏂 Anyone else like snowboarding or skiing? 🎿
Double tap if you’re taking advantage of all the fresh powder California ski resorts are getting! ❄️❄️❄️⠀
Don’t forget your Mini-Green so you have enough energy to ski until close🎿 ⠀

After spending a few days on the new @neversummerindustries I've decided to name it Sinapu, the Ute word for Wolf, because the Ute Native Americans were the dominant cultural force around the Never Summer Mountains.
This board is awesome. It's incredibly fun as an all mountain freeride board with lots of pop, easy turn initiation and good float in powder. The new recluse Web carbon weave under each foot helps to stiffen the board for better response and edge hold and the fusion camber profile left the Shaper series to help make the West Bound that much better.
I'm so stoked that I get to own a board from next year's lineup!
