How we feel about all the snow coming our way! 🙌
I just got a pair of cross country skis- hand me downs from my grandmother- and I’m super excited to give it another go! I look like a baby giraffe but it is so much fun learning something new! It makes it even better that Ariel can join too!
What new thing do you plan to try this year?!

While I'm climbing better than ever, the approaches to the climbs are a different story. Not only am I going turtle speed 🐢 but my wonderful friends carry more than their fair share of group gear to accommodate for my recovery. Listening to some beats goes a long way to making the dreaded hiking before climbing go by faster. While I don't climb or belay with my @aftershokzcanada headphones on, they are comfortable enough to stay around my ears all day or I just leave them hanging around my neck - the snug fit makes it impossible for them to fall off. See the full first pitch of "A bridge too far" on my story. Heading there for another lap right now! #ad#ShokzSquadCAN

Jumping for joy because cold winter temps are no match for the warmth of our bestselling jackets, parkas and vests.
So much can remain unchanged over years and years in nature. Not so with humanity. There's not one among us who is the same they were five years ago or even yesterday. We've learned something. We've been embarrassed. We've been joyous. We've been proud. We've been heartbroken. We've been angry. We've been confused. We've been wondering. Through it all, we've grown. Your worth and identity cannot be defined by the tumultuous thoughts and desires that plague you today. Because days, months, or years from now, do you expect to feel the same?
It might look pretty but I think I cried on this beach 😅 Give me a mountain anyday cos I realllly hate beach walking. Especially when the wind is smashing you in the face, you underestimate the heat, the length of time it takes to walk and the sand is giving your calves an epic workout. What doesn't kill you makes you cry then makes you stronger right!? I think thats how it goes.
sitting in bed reading Henry Miller, tonight it’s an Anthology, after this I’ll have gone through most of what Miller wrote. will always remember the first book though, Tropic of Cancer, someone recommended the audiobook to me last Christmas. finally got around to it one day while I was skiing alone. the lineup at peak chair, this chair, was long so I put it on. don’t think I’ll ever forget the narrators voice muttering about Paris, I hear it a little every time up. @eddiebauer#liveyouradventure#ebcontributor
New year, new plan for adventure! Where are you traveling in 2019? We just booked tickets back to Mexico, but this time we’ll be checking out Guadalajara. The birthplace of mariachi and tequila... We’re likely to have a pretty amazing time 😊
Oh BC, you beauty. I can’t wait to explore more of you ↟↟ .
I don’t think I told you guys actually... but 3 weeks ago @mchutch5 and I officially activated our Canadian Residency Visa, which means we are now officially PERMANENT RESIDENTS! Yaaaaaay!!! 🇨🇦 .
There have been so many steps to this crazy visa process, I’m so glad it’s nearly done. We now can’t leave the country for the next little while until our PR card officially arrives, but then it’s 100% done and finished and we’ll be free to explore wherever we want again! .
I would LOVE to know if you guys have any questions about the whole Visa/PR process? I wanna create more useful blog content for you newcomers to Canada as well as those wanting to get PR.
So let me know in the comments and I’ll try to make it happen and perhaps put an FAQ together too 💫

From the Japanese Alps to the Pacific Ranges of the Canadian Coast Mountains. Happy to share this day with this ‘lil mademoiselle. #hismom
Sometimes you have to indulge. This is going to sound CRAZY but for the first time in probably two years, I’ve taken the last three nights off from any social plans. Each night this week I’ve gone to @starcycleportland to workout, came home and made dinner, taken a bath, actually done a face skin care routine and haven’t drank a sip of alcohol. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I haven’t done that for three nights in a row in two years at least. It feels amazing. I feel more centered and relaxed and aligned with myself. So my indulgence this week has been to allow myself time with ME. Admittedly I get into thought patterns telling myself I need to move away in order to have free time for myself but in reality I just have to make small adjustments in my regular life to meet my own needs. It’s difficult to say ‘no’ when you want to say ‘yes’ to social engagements but ultimately if you feel worn down and agitated it’s likely you need some time by yourself to recharge. Life is tricky enough, try to pay attention to the subtle hints your body gives you in order to stay in your magic. For me this looked like being alone the last few nights and settling into a ME routine. I start traveling this weekend so this was a perfect time to rebalance. ⚡️⚡️ Also sometimes all you need is ice cream. Let’s be honest. 🍦
May you be a light for yourself, when all other lights go out...
yes,.. I may have just partially quoted from Lord of the Rings.. but I tweaked it because I was reminded tonight that I have a light within me. My own special light. It’s what makes me, me. And I can’t ever let that go out.. Also Lord of the Rings is one of my favs and I mean come on, I have to partially include it! And I hope you know that inspiration goes the same for you, too. // #letyourlightshine#BeYoutiful#lordoftherings#canibeanelfinthiswilderness

#tbt to touring the Amber Fort near Jaipur India last week.
The red sandstone complex, located high on a hill overlooking Maota Lake, is huge and so intricately detailed. This was just one doorway in the first courtyard — behind it are rooms with elaborate mirrored ceilings, gorgeous gardens, and a silver temple.
Throwing it back to our winter glamping adventure in Whistler. During this week my personal goal was 7 days of 3+ hours of active adventure and @dana.maher and I more than succeeded. I felt proud of our commitment and empowered to carry on, lead by example. —————————————————————————
When I became pregnant and saw little to no visibility of women being their badass selves with their bump on the trail, I was shocked, appalled and yearned to see those photos of inspiration. ———————————————————
One of my goals this year is to begin writing about my experiences with a #bumponthetrail in our @pack.den blog. In my mind, this involved as much research and writing as it did bringing visibility to myself and other women on a similar journey; this also translated to pushing myself to be stronger and braver, push harder and prove myself. ———————————————————
As I reflect on our amazing week of adventure in Whistler, I can’t help but feel baffled by my experience of my immediate now. Last weekend I went on a great hike and one minute I was feeling bold and empowered; two days later I was having a difficult time walking. By Tues, I was struck by an intense pain in my right lower back that had me hobbling; that evening I required support from a wall or furniture to move around the house without falling. By Wed afternoon I was unable to walk at all. Wed evening we were at the hospital. From 23 weeks to 26 weeks pregnant my world felt like I tumbled down from an epic summit to the bottom of the valley. ———————————————————
It turns out I am experiencing severe sciatica and once I can bring the pain back down to manageable (and walk independently), I will need to modify my activity for the remaining 93 days of pregnancy. At first I was devastated and heartbroken. I felt like my power to be a badass mama and role model to women and my baby flew out the window. But after having a day of downtime to reflect, I realize that I can still be impactful. For starters, I can get to that writing I’ve been intending to do. I can praise and admire other women who journey on through their full 9 months with a bump on the trail and help bring visibility to them. Stay tuned, my friends! 💞💪🏽🏔

“I love your titties 'cause they prove I can focus on two things at once.” Kanye West
You may be a megastar, Kanye, but not even you can focus on two things at the same time.
I did my first 10-day silent vipassana retreat in May 2018. I loved it. But it was hard. As a writer and yogi, the two hardest things for me were not being able to write and having to sit still. My mind screamed at the injustice. Except that nobody listened to my mind because it didn’t have a voice. So fairly quickly, it piped down. I learned that emotions like injustice, anger and even sadness disappear if you don’t stoke them.
One of the beautiful things about vipassana is that the practice is broken down into baby steps and taught in a dearly-defined progression. This means that you have the opportunity to achieve numerous small wins throughout the process. Like the first time you have a successful “strong determination” sit where you don't move open your eyes, hands, or legs for a full hour. I would have whooped if the notion of ‘success’ wasn’t so antithetical to the practice.
What I love about vipassana is that once you have once you get a little better at stabilising your attention, you can open up your awareness to every aspect of your experience. My two favourite times to meditate are at the end of a yoga session when my attention is dialled in and I’m super sensitive to sensations, especially in my body. And in taxis or on the street when I can focus on my breath, and then open up my awareness to the different sounds, smells and physical sensations in my environment. When you learn how to meditate, you realise that it is impossible ever to be bored.
My tip for new meditators if you’re struggling to make it a habit, is to fit in small sits throughout the day. Experiment with different times. First thing in the morning, pre-input from the world, after a sweaty workout or before eating a delicious meal. Meditation is a wonderful way to keep your mind clear and free from needless

When you're stuck at home, sick on the couch instead of catching some lines, you paint mountains. Mountains make everything better.
Glad I opted to go outside today instead of doing homework. Hiked Mt. Storm King and made a new friend
