What's better than hot chocolate with a sister?
It's a family tradition to have hot chocolate the day we cut our Christmas tree down and then decorate it...
We have the Christmas tunes playing and are enjoying family time.
It's always the little things...
🦃 The house smells like turkey and all the good gorgeousness (in the words of Jamie Oliver 🤣) Celebrating early with a pre-christmas Christmas potluck before we head on our holiday adventures next wknd! 🚐💯 #tipsysimon
Creating some of my own Christmas ‘Hygge’ at my humble abode. This candle is called Nordic Pine, and while I’m usually not a huge fan of scented candles, this one is nice and subtle. Also, grammie’s little village Christmas Tree and dad’s plaid that goes with his kilt are good ways for me to remember two special people in my life who have always made Christmas so very magical for me. While they’re no longer here in the flesh, they still live in my heart ❤️ ✨🎄 🕯

It’s the Advent season - the countdown is on...door #16
KEEPING IT SHUT🎄🎄🎄
Words are powerful. Words have influence in more ways than one. Words can cause great harm and cause strongholds over our lives which has us believing a certain way. If words are THAT powerful to cause limiting beliefs that has us believing we can’t do something, then how much more effective would it be if we changed it for the positive. How about we start believing differently about ourselves. How about we start speaking life into our dreams, our aims, our desires. How about we keep our mouths quiet when we go to speak a negative word, be it against someone or ourselves. Imagine how life would be oh so very different if before we started speaking the words, ‘I’m gunna fail anyway so there’s no point’ or ‘I’m not good enough’, or ‘I’m never going to succeed’, we stopped and chose words that were positive and declare as though it would be. If you speak negatively, you are creating a mindset that will make it so be, so how about switching it to the positive. Choose your words wisely and speak life into your dreams, ‘I can do this new role, I’m just still learning’, ‘I will get out of debt’, ‘I am good enough’. Speak over yourself what you would a friend and THINK before you speak.🎄✨🎄✨🎄✨🎄🎄🎄🎄✨✨✨✨
What words do you need to keep shut on and how will you change it for the positive? Comment below, I would love to hear...✨✨✨🌟⭐️ 🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁

W - who’s the biggest cheerleader of your writing?
My mother has consistently supported my writing endeavors, not just in encouraging me and providing me the opportunities to hone my craft, but I’m always being willing to act as my editor when it came to my larger projects (particularly the ones I’ve entered in contests over the years). She may not be a writer and may not understand why I talk about my characters as if they were real people, but she still is there if I want to talk about them or run an idea by her. That, to me, is incredibly valuable.
I finished The Romanov Sisters last night and I’m still moved by what I read. This novel is, in my mind, a perfect example of how eloquent and compelling historical nonfiction can be. It was as if I knew the four Romanov sisters (and to a degree their family) by the end; I felt for them, hoped for them, grieved for them. And what a sad end they met, at a time in their lives when they should have had a vibrant future ahead. I, of course, am an amateur when it comes to Russian history, and I by no means think I know the entirety of their story and all the social and political events surrounding them, but nevertheless, this book was a treat. I also enjoyed how many primary resources were utilized by the author—diary entries, letters, first hand accounts, photographs. The sources were rich and abundant, giving credence to the author’s interpretations. Now I must find some more books about the family so I can learn even more (and keep myself from being sad that Nicholas never lives his dream of being a farmer in England). 😬
Do you enjoy historical nonfiction? If so, what have been your favorite books in the genre?
FRIENDLY REMINDER: As we head into the last week before Christmas, remember the holidays should be all about the people we love and the time we spend with them, not the money we spend on them.
Some things on my to do list this week include: drink hot chocolate on the couch in front of the Christmas tree with @chasing_gold , take @cherrythedingo on some adventures, bake Christmas cookies with @patrickrobergelucas, listen to @cleveorch Christmas music with the fam, try out some new recipes for dinner, read a holiday book (A Winter Dream by Richard Paul Evans), stay centered and relaxed via yoga with @namastenik. For the first time (ever?!), nowhere on my list is running around the mall or wrapping gifts. I think it is going to be a lovely week!
If you're feeling overwhelmed this week, close your eyes, take some deep breaths, and remind yourself what the season is all about at the core. Cut out the noise, grab a hot cocoa and a loved one, and allow yourself to feel the joy and coziness you deserve. 💕
P.S. Also on my to do list is to get my holiday season workouts ready to share with you all! In case you missed it - starting Dec 22nd, I'll be posting workouts to keep us all active during the holidays. The workouts will be quick quick quick, they won't require any equipment or gym space, and I'll provide lots of modifications so all fitness levels can take advantage. Stay tuned!
What are your plans this week to get you feeling joyful and cozy!? 👇

Enjoying these delicious, heart-y veggie bowls 🍃🥒 #happysunday
