Simple faux greenery + a cute buffalo check ball garland= festive sink area. Since it was hard to find curtains that fit these windows, I bought one normal sized curtain panel and sewed two smaller panels. It was super easy since I only had to sew two straight edges for each curtain. I like to change them out to a lighter pattern in the summer but am thinking bamboo shades for the future. What do you think? Curtains or shades? Decorating the apartment with my new poster @mapiful. 💫
What makes @mapiful different is that you can create your own poster and choose the location yourself. What a great gift for Christmas.🎁 I didn’t have to think twice what place I wanted to choose. As many of you know, half of my roots come from Singapore. Never forget your roots! 🖤
What place would you choose? 🌏
Considering renaming this account ‘DIY projects I still haven’t finished’. Here is the almost finished up corner, I was really happy with how the ‘balloons’ turned out and you can swipe to see the skyscraper height chart by @tenvinilo_tenstickers which helps create that ‘house in the middle of the big city’ feel. But I’ve never quite got round to building the radiator cover - I did build the house though! So that’s another thing to add to my to do list 😬
People always ask me how I get my DIY done and look after all the children. Well here’s an example this is baby two, a few weeks old and watching I’m unimpressed as I attempt to recreate the ‘Up’ house balloons with these concertina honeycomb ball thingys (I’m sure that’s the technical name for them).

The skyscrapers for our ‘Up’ corner are the @ikeauk Gnedby painted in rustoleum chalk paint. I had never painted Ikea furniture before but I’d picked these three shelving units up for £10 each which was a great saving and I needed them to be grey. Google informed me that @zinsser BIN primer was the best stuff to use so I gave it a shot and I’ve been a dedicated user ever since! You have to get it on quick and not go over it while it is drying but it made the chalk paint adhere perfectly to the units and three years later only has minimal damage considering that battering it has had from *spoiler alert* three children - yes I had another one 😂

I better explain the plan for the playroom. We are big @disney and @pixar fans so we decided to them each area of the playroom as a different Pixar film. I wanted a TV mounted on the wall so the children couldn’t touch any of the controls so I decided this was really the best location as we could run cables straight down to the radiator and then across to the shelving at the sides. This is the Ikea Gnedby (well three of them) and my vision was to paint them grey and have them represent skyscrapers. I would build a radiator cover with shelf which would have an Up house on it and ‘balloons’ above the TV. The next few posts should show how I achieved some of that!

Eventually I got the painting of the playroom done and a carpet down! The carpet was Heritage Lux in Sky blue from @jw_carpets its since been discontinued but has been absolutely brilliant in here, it was pretty cheap but can be scrubbed clean easily and even bleach cleaned if needed which is of course very useful in a kids playroom!
Ever start something and wish you hadn’t? On this particular day it dawned on me that having started wallpapering this cupboard area was going to look really rubbish. I’d been thinking it was original and I must keep it but once I started to dismantle it things got worse as you can see from swiping. We already knew the house had woodworm and we had it treated throughout three days after we moved in, I don’t think they did a great job and missed stuff like this because they didn’t survey the house well enough. Fortunately this section was just one bit of wood and hadn’t entered the floorboards etc. So I removed it all and that was it gone. Did you know that woodworm doesn’t necessarily just enter all the wood it comes in contact with? It can just stick to a certain section it prefers and never touch something nearby 🤷🏻♀️

I remember this day like it was last week. I’d been signed off work at 31 weeks pregnant with the worst case of sinusitis I’ve ever had, I honestly couldn’t remember what it felt like to be able to breathe through my nose but I was absolutely determined that this nursery needed to be done and while my daughter was at nursery and I should’ve been resting I did what any DIY maniac would do and started to hang my wallpaper. It may or may not be stuck to the walls with 40% snot.

One of Andy’s biggest complaints about my DIY adventures is that I start things before I’ve finished the last thing or I stop at about 90% complete because I get bored. He isn’t wrong. So here we are January 5th 2016, we’ve been in the house three weeks and we’ve ripped out the playroom and I’ve also stripped this room, the nursery out and installed a dado rail because I have a dream. And that dream is a nursery room for baby 1 before baby 2 arrives...I’m 30 weeks pregnant at this point.

This was in between coats of paint, seriously why would you have painted this beautiful coving green. I think it took four coats to cover in the end

Can you believe this is the fireplace wall?! Ok maybe the dodgy skirting gives it away but I love those curved walls and was instantly in love with the colour. Check out the light fitting - I sold it on eBay to someone whose home the mid century look would suit better!

So this is the playroom once it was skimmed and all the debris was gone. I apologise for the terrible photos and lighting but I ended up doing a lot of DIY once our little girl was in bed. I couldn’t wait to see the back of that green!

The less said about this the better probably. Andy made a valiant attempt to curve new skirting round the fireplace wall but I think we can all see it was a definite ‘that will do’ job. Maybe when the kids leave home we’ll go back and unbodge this 😂

Christmas Eve 2015 and I had my poor dad patch plastering the wall with Andy assisting. In retrospect I should’ve got a plasterer in as the wall was being skimmed anyway. You can see from a previous patch job that this room would have had a lovely big Edwardian fireplace but to reinstate one in the playroom just wouldn’t have been practical. Check out that mental green woodwork!
We decided that the first room to get a makeover needed to be the ground floor reception room with the oriel window which we wanted as a playroom for our babies to spend their days in. First order of business was to rip out this monstrous fireplace - 😫sorry if it’s your style but it definitely was not the style intended to be in a 1911 house! So we got my dad to help attack the beast - swipe to see demolition!
