This local boy and I hung out by the door in the Kandy to Ella train for a bit, before more locals and tourists came by to get their share of wild winds & adrenaline and soak in the stupendous beauty of this train ride.
Immaculate tea plantations, gurgling waterfalls, colourful tuk tuks, tiny village homes, dense forests, paddy fields and all green errythang whizz past you like a show reel of nature's best 😍 In my limited train experience, this has been the single most memorable train journey I've ever been on, all for $3 for a 7 hour journey!
Tip for the train: DON'T book first class tickets for comfort! They're air conditioned and fancy, but the windows and doors are obviously shut.
Instead, go a bit early to the station on the morning of your journey and book yourself a 2nd or 3rd class seat (preferably 2nd)
The seats are unreserved, so it's a big fat rush to jump in and find a seat, but oh my goodness the views and smells and feels!
Vendors keep coming around with cheapass snacks like dal vada, fried fish, samosas, peanuts, chips and beverages like juices, tea and water.
Met so many locals and travelers on board and had a rad time on the trip. But it was crowded and often rainy, so this is the only picture I could manage with my time at the door!
