  • The solo exhibition Radio/Tomorrow’s sculpture by Katinka Bock is currently on view @iacvilleurbanne. As the third part of the Tomorrow’s Sculpture cycle, dedicated to the artist by different European exhibition spaces, ´Radio’ will deploy a collection of productions and creations based on the principles of their on site reactualization. Using materials such as clay, stone, wood, copper, plants and water along with everyday objects that have been diverted from their initial use, Katinka Bock’s sculptures and installations use gestures that are legible and simple: folding, winding, marking, rubbing, falling, finding a balance. The artworks become part of the flow of life, allowing them to be altered in accordance with the spaces within which it takes form. #katinkabock #sculpture #iacvilleurbanne #galeriegretameert

  • Donald Judd, Lascaux 89-64, 1989, acrylic on aluminium, 40 x 180 x 30 cm. Donald Judd is one of the pioneers of American Minimal Art. With his ´Specific Objects’ Donald Judd gave shape to the minimalist objective to create autonomous and non-referential works of art. These objects belong to a vast and original vocabulary of forms, including stacks, blocks and progressions that challenge existing categories such as sculpture and painting. Only tomorrow still on view as part of our current group show Wiggle! #donaldjudd #sculpture #specificobjects #art #contemporaryart #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • This work by Louise Lawler is part of the exhibition Signal or Noise @smakgent from 10.11.2018 - 10.02.2019. A selection of artists is brought together who reinterpret the photographic as a field of artistic research and experiment. They play with the functionality, processes and space of photography in a more hybrid form. The exhibition is a critical space, set by the unique positions of the participating artists such as Louise Lawler, Jean-Luc Moulène, Hana Miletic, Thomas Ruff and more. #smakgent #louiselawler #photography #exhibition #gent #contemporaryart #galeriegretameert

  • Installation view of work by Gerard Byrne, Jielemeguvvie guvvie sjisjnjeli - Film inside an Image. Byrne is an artist who has established an international reputation for the creation of complex film installations which interrogate how the past is presented to us to better understand our place on the scale of history. In this work subject and location converge. The film is presented as a single-screen projection in which no actors appear. Byrne compares this museum, with its single light-source to a camera; the diorama within, its photographic image. Into this nineteenth century image, Byrne’s twenty-first century camera is absorbed. #gerardbyrne #video #installation #diorama #biologiskamuseet #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Currently on view at the gallery, the solo exhibition ‘No turning here!’ with Nathalie Du Pasquier. Her oeuvre is one that is at once sensual and cerebral, naive and sophisticated, otherworldly and down-to-earth, an oeuvre that magically resists interpretation and which, in its explorations of color, space and form, is suite simply a pure and inexhaustible source of delight. « Even in abstract works, you can actually see many things that are not abstract. This way of entering another world is very interesting » - Nathalie Du Pasquier #nathaliedupasquier #noturninghere #painting #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • The work of Sylvie Eyberg is currently on view at Shanaynay in Paris. She cuts out details of illustrations from old magazines. Compiled in notebooks, these image fragments are rephotographed, enlarged and occasionally paired with extracts of sentences that Eyberg also takes from printed sources. Years elapse before the words and images come together. The exhibition is on view until December 8. #sylvieeyberg #shayaynay #paris #art #contemporaryart #galeriegretameert @shanayn4y

  • Opening this Thursday, November 8 from 6 - 8 PM at the gallery: Jielemeguvvie guvvie sjisjnjeli - Film inside an image & some related works. A large-scale film installation presented alongside a series of black and white photographs. Byrne’s film takes the physical legacy of the Biologiska Museet in Stockholm as its starting point. Purpose-built in 1893, the Biologiska Museet hosts a 360-degree diorama of the Niordic wilderness. Birds and mammals whose taxidermied feathers and fur have faded over time populate a static landscape illuminated only by natural light through an aperture in the roof of the building #gerardbyrne #videoart #art #contemporaryart #photography #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • One more week to go before the opening of ´No turning here!’, the first solo exhibition with Nathalie Du Pasquier at the gallery. Nathalie Du Pasquier on her work: « I spent much of the 1990s discovering, or rediscovering, art history - thinking about the connections between painters through the ages, from Roman paintings (in particular the frescoes at Pompeii), to medieval miniatures, to early Renaissance works, to Italian novecento artists: Giorgio de Chirico, Giorgio Morandi, Mario Sironi. At that time, I was also painting a lot of still lifes and landscapes, but my work since has evolved into something less to do with real objects and more to do with abstract shapes. I am also interested in understanding that link between geometry and representation of space - the ambiguity of how three dimensions render on a flat plane - which really comes into focus in the perspectival experiments of the Renaissance.» Image: studio view of an installation that will be part of the exhibition from 9.11.18 - 19.01.19. #nathaliedupasquier #noturninghere #abstract #painting #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • We are happy to announce the upcoming solo exhibition with work by Nathalie Du Pasquier. She was born in Bordeaux, France in 1957, and has lived and worked in Milan since 1979. She worked as a designer until 1986 and was a founding member of the design group Memphis. During her time in the group she designed numerous ´decorated surfaces’: textiles, carpets, plastic laminates, and some furnitures and objects. In 1987 painting became her main activity. At the occasion of her upcoming exhibition in the gallery she will present a new body of work where shapes and planes are further abstracted. Opening November 8, from 6-8 PM. • We are happy to announce the upcoming solo exhibition with work by Gerard Byrne at the gallery, opening on November 8. The work Jielemeguvvie guvvie sjisjnjeli (Film inside an image) will be on view together with related photographs. Byrne explores our perception of the contemporary world by revisiting history. His earlier video installations recycle images and conversations from various media and epochs. This installations will show in one unbroken tracking of the camera a large-scale diorama, shot at the Biological Museum in Stockholm. #gerardbyrne #video #installation #diorama #art #contemporaryart #galeriegretameert

  • Stef Driesen, Untitled, 2018, 160 x 130 cm. Saturday the duo exhibition by Stef Driesen and Germaine Kruip opened @cultuurcentrummechelen , showing the link between the artistic practice of both artists. Having shared a studio space in Brussels for years their way of working and the choice of subjects is enriched with an unspoken synergy. The work of Germaine Kruip can be described as an investigation into abstraction and the sculptural, with an emphasis on intangible and performative work. Stef Driesen’s focus lies in abstract painting. The initial differences led to subtle similarities and dialogues. The focus will be on the scanning of boundaries between the material and the immaterial. The exhibition is on view until Sunday January 6, 2019. #stefdriesen #abstract #painting #cultuurcentrummechelen #lighttodarkdarktolight #exhibition #art #contemporaryart #galeriegretameert

  • Richard Tuttle, Lamp, 1985-1987, cardboard, paper, gouache, steel wire, 121 x 77 x 21,5 cm. This piece is part of our current group show Wiggle and only a few more days on view! Richard Tuttle has thrown into question nearly every conceivable artistic convention and critical category to create an enormously inventive body of abstract work - one that embraces and intermingles drawing, painting, collage, book-making, sculpture and design. From his spare yet enigmatic forms of the 1960s to his complex, multi-faceted assemblages and installations, Tuttle’s primary impetus throughout has been to craft unique objects, using everyday, often ephemeral material, that demand to be confronted on their own terms. The relentless individuality of his aesthetic vision has earned him standing as one of the most provocative and influential artists of his day. #richardtuttle #tuttle #lamp #wiggle #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • LAST DAYS to see the group show Wiggle at the gallery. With work by Louise Lawler, Richard Tuttle, Diane Simpson, Ricky Swallow, ... the selection of works on view promotes an understanding of materiality that goes beyond its definite meaning. Instead of approaching sculpture as a medium with a set of established conventions, one is invited to consider “medium” in the broader sense of the word, as that which literally stands in-between. At odds with the fixity usually attributed to most sculptural forms, this slight change of perspective helps to situate sculptures as intervening elements through which impressions are conveyed, and physicality transmitted. #louiselawler #richardtuttle #dianesimpson #rickyswallow #wiggle #groupshow #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Edith Dekyndt, Havbro, 2016, silver leaf on carpet, 240 x 170 cm. Edith Dekyndt draws on natural and physical phenomena in her work, she explores the properties of materials, she focuses upon what does not readily grab our attention, however her works invite us to change not only the way we look at things but also our way of being and influencing the world. By repositioning objects in one and the same continuous current she prompts us to see what often eludes us and remains invisible. As a nomadic artist, her works are born of the time and place in which she conceives them. The context is even more vital, for it does not merely play host to her pieces but also determines their physical characteristics and interacts with them. The work Havbro is seen here in 2018 and 2016, the work reveals the passing of time through the oxidation process, not simply as a finished frozen visual form that the viewer need only look at, it is at the same time the creative process itself, the work in the making, taking on life and evolving before one’s eyes in accordance with a set of circumstances that govern its evolution. #edithdekyndt #havbro #carpet #silver #silverleaf #friezelondon #galeriegretameert #art #contemporaryart

  • Terry Adkins, Tonsure, 2010, black medicine ball, fur, books. This work is part of the group show Wiggle, currently on view at the gallery until October 20. The artist, Terry Adkins (1953-2014), had an early inclination for music, in his youth he performed with Sun Ra and other jazz ensembles. His practice is characterized by multiplicity, hybridity and collaboration. Adkin’s work always constitutes an attempt to render immaterial qualities of energy and frequencies present in the matter around him. Using locally sourced items and materials such as musical instruments his sculptures often invoke performativity. #terryadkins #sculpture #wiggle #art #contemporaryart #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Jean-Luc Moulene, Caisse à souffle (moiré machine/main) (Paris, 2017). Jean-Luc Moulene sets out to remove the boundaries between heterogeneous world: art and media, art objects and mass produced objects, utility value and artistic value. Throughout his work, the artist has been exploring the nature of artistic labor and what it means to « author a work of art ». His practice is characterized by the wide variety of materials he uses along with his keen sense of observation and analysis of the world that surrounds him. From his point of view, art is not peaceful, an artwork always contains a yes and a no and it is the task of the viewer to find and define their own position. This work is part of our group show Wiggle and on view until October 30. #jeanlucmoulene #sculpture #exhibition #contemporaryart #art #gallery #brussels #wiggle #galeriegretameert
