While home for Thanksgiving, we took some time for a photoshoot in all our favorite spots in Birmingham, AL. Birmingham is a beautiful city with hills and lots of greenery. It features multiple village centers where the community congregates. As we go out into the world, we always remember our Southern upbringing, & apply that to how we conduct ourselves and our business. What are your favorite aspects from where you grew up? 🌟
Tiny Story from Basel | Children of the None-Nanny State Culture
It is quite strange coming from England to a culture that encourages it children to learn and explore with risk. In the UK we have a very Nanny State Culture we suffocate our children's natural urge to explore and grow, we shelter them from any kind of risk through health and safety legislation and unnecessary Laws.
In Basel I am pleasantly shocked to see children not teenagers, but young children using power tools to engrave glass, twiddle wood on lathes, to help a blacksmith hammer out Molten hot metals. Supervised yes, but wrapped in suffocating cotton wool, no.
The problem with our culture (UK) is our government interferes to much in our social and family culture, we have allowed it to suffocate our natural curiosity, to legislate the family, our art, our thinking, our wellbeing and our grieving. The state legislates our communities, our parenting and as such we have given away our individual and community sovreignty
We have a lot to learn from Europe about the Family and Community

Family is always with you. Today I am so thankful for mine. As I put on my apron, I think of my Tia Julie who made it herself. Every time I make biscotti or pumpkin roll or gorditas, I think of my Tia Sylvia. Anytime I make fudge or cheese logs, I think of my Tia Viola. And when I make my Grandma Luna’s homemade spices, I remember her showing me and her saying “Mira, mira, this is how much you use (using her hand “cup” to measure it out)”. And no matter how hard I try, my spaghetti never comes out as good as my mom’s. I am grateful for these ladies that God has blessed me with! So now I can pass that love onto my family! #gratefulforfamily#familyvalues#traditions#thinkingofyoualways#makingtortillas
Missing my family lately but I know they are so proud of me, especially my grandma. My family taught me very valuable lessons growing up and I will always cherish them. We have always had very strong women in our family and I hope and pray that I am able to carry that on. Thank you mom and Grandma Rose for instilling the very best qualities in me.
Today will be a day of sweet sorrow. My Nonnie will be taken down south for what may be the last time. I've been spoiled having her just a drive away for most of the year. Well that's all about to change. She will be missed from this entire area. Friends & family members that she has left such an impact on. I hope she pushes and does return in the spring. That would be such a blessing. Although, I recognize the time I've experienced to be a blessing in it's entirety. My Nonnie, came to America from Italy when she was 30 years old with my grandfather. Unfortunately, he passed away, so I never met him. My Nonnie has been a strong matriarchal figure on my mother's side. I've been blessed to have such a close tie to my heritage and even was fortunate to visit relatives in Italy with my Nonnie when I was 20yrs old. She has always given us a healthy dose of tough love as she calls it, in her broken Italian. I've been blessed to enjoy delicious food, her infectious laughter, her strong work ethic, and her tenacity. I will always regret not spending more time with her due to my health issues. Health, financial concerns, and my three fur pup babies will all make traveling to see her a challenge for me. She knows she is abundantly loved. I'll put on a brave front when I say my goodbyes but I will be balling like a baby before I'm around the block. I have a new tattoo that will be finished and unveiled on the 18th. I know it's not something my soon to be 94yr old Nonnie would approve of, but it's a representation of my heritage. I've planned this for awhile, it is very ironic that in my list of tattoo work this happens to be when it's occurring. I appreciate you taking the time to read about this outstanding woman who I'm blessed to call my Nonnie and be her first born grandchild. Also the only one who is single. As an Italian woman, this concerns her. I think it's better to be with the right one, not just anyone. Despite our differences in generations and views one thing is for certain. I will always love and cherish my Nonnie and the memories made
