Autechre - NTS Session 1
Autechre are back this year with another successions of intricate splats, booms, and taps. I got 3 more NTS Sessions to review after this one, so keep you seatbelts buckled. This first one introduces the concept quite nicely. Almost every song on this album has one thing that stays pretty much the same throughout, and then it has ever changing variables throughout the music that makes it interesting and fun to listen to. Some of my favorites like T1a1 and Four of Seven have this pretty obviously. T1a1 has a heavy boom bap rhythm going, but has the pitch and timbre of those boom baps constantly changing. It has ambient synths in the back to add structure to the piece as well. Four of Seven has this weird laser sound that stays constant and a lead part in the back, both constantly changing timbre and pitch with different elements experimented with throughout. Debris Funk plays with cool static sounds that get very industrial, and 32A_Reflected uses beautiful ambient synths to close out the album. Every album in this series is just under 2 hours long, but this one surprisingly never gets boring. Every track here has something new to offer in terms of sound, and feel, but maintains the style of the album. Autechre have really outdone themselves with this project, worth checking out for any glitch or electronic fans. Even with the run length, when you’d think it wouldn’t be it’s completely justified.
