Memory Collage — our answer to @SurfaceMag’s call for “The Future of the Work Place” 🤖 The buildings we occupy tend to bind our freedom, both physically and psychologically. The workspace itself is designed to commodify our time, our thoughts, our lives. We propose a future in which the workspace will bias the personal narrative of the individual, performing more emotionally than physically, with the architecture serving as a canvas for the fractured collage of memories an occupant projects onto it. Space will be anonymous, illuminated, and transparent, void of extraneous details and overt architectural elements, and limited only by the malleable and textured experiences that have shaped our lives.
#SSLoves // Issey Miyake : A rare designer who works in a free spirited manner. He doesn’t believe in churning out a new collection every 6 months. Tradition is very important to Miyake and tradition takes time. It is the fusion of the most basic of materials and ancient of traditions with new and innovative techniques that has kept his brand at the forefront of fashion. “We may have to go through a thinning process,” he says, meaning that we may have to consume less. “This is important. In Paris we call the people who make clothing couturiers – they develop new clothing items – but actually the work of designing is to make something that works in real life.” In other words, clothes shouldn’t be a frivolous end in themselves, but should have a purpose – they should offer a solution. “The important thing is to make something” he says. His development of pleated fabric and clothing since 1989 is considered a monumental contribution to fashion even today.
