It took a couple days of navigating & figuring out how to get, but I finally arrived.
Banos Morales ——
Glacier & Natural Springs located in San Jose de Maipo. Buses don’t drive all the way out to this small town, which is a trailhead for several hikes to glaciers. It’s worth waiting for the weekend though, because where a taxi will charge $30,000 pesos (approx $60) one way, a bus will only run you $2,000 (approx. $4). Gloria, my ‘hotel manager’, suggested I do the longer 6 hour hike for the better views. But, with the bus showing up late, I didn’t arrive until closer to 11 am. And, with only one bus coming back at 6 pm, I ended up opting for a shorter 3-4hr hike. The gate guard said the first 3kms would be straight up and really hard. I was slightly disappointed in that regard as the incline was average and the hike ended up flattening out more than I would have liked. I won’t complain though because the hike itself was still beautiful !!!
