  • Pocket Alex returns! And she's wondering why I keep adding such monstrously sized books to my December TBR, especially when I haven't even finished a single book so far this month. She's a judgy little creature...even if her point is valid. _______________________________________ #QOTD : What is one book you just MUST read this month before the new year rolls in? Mine is probably Queen of Air and Darkness. That's why I've decided to set aside Dragonfly in Amber for now.

  • November reading wrap-up📚 (Better late than never😅) • Basically I was on a Harry Potter reading kick. So far this December I haven't managed to continue that reading flow, I've only finished 1 book🙊 and does it even count if that ome book had 55 pages? I think it does and did enjoy that book a lot! I've just been busy and tired and I soooo can't wait to have 2 weeks of soon. Just 2 more weeks of school and work... • I am really really excited to go to Lichtjesavond in Delft tomorrow though, I haven't been in so long and it's actually my boyfriend's first time!! • Does your town have a Christmas celebration/Christmas tree decorating thing? Where we live now there's no such thing so I'm happy to be going back to my hometown for the occasion💙 . . . . #readingwrapup #readinggoals #readersofig #booksofinsta #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookish #bibliophile #harrypotter #harrypotterbooks #allthebooks #booklove #booklife #ireadya #bookphotography

#carloemiliogadda #gadda #erosepriapo #garzanti #romanzo #libro #book #novel #instabook #instalibri #libri #books #bookstagram #consiglidilettura #cooltura #bestseller #bookpusher #bookphoto #bookphotgraphy #bookworm #booklife #booklover #bookporn

  • The first book really did not blow me away, but I had a feeling that the world would get even bigger and that there was still a lot to explore. I was right, the second book was better than the first and the third one is better that the second. The plot is exploring more of the history of the former queens and the powers they held. There are more storylines, more countries and more characters now and I am really enjoying myself! 🖤

  • @gen.and.tonic and I first came across @queenbooksto this summer after a great morning of writing in Leslieville (Shout out to the @eatgreenwood). It’s the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. It has everything. The vibe is welcoming and makes you want to hang out - basically the way any good bookstore should make you feel. If you’re in Leslieville, definitely check it out. What’s your favourite neighbourhood bookstore? (📷@jettefierce)

Taggo in foto ma possono partecipare tutti 😊 #librodelgiorno #librisulibri #librimania #libriovunque #libri_e_libri #librilibrilibri #libristagram #libriamo #tempodilibri #passionelibri #vivailibri #storiadiunaladradilibri  #libriamoci #libripertutti #piulibripiuliberi #leggerelibri #equilibri  #2018  #challenge #book #bookstagram #booklover #booklife #bookblogger #booking #bookphotography

  • Mini  Review - ‘The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock’ - by Imogen Hermes Gowar ⭐⭐⭐⭐ *full review up on the blog I read this book with @remembery_tree_reads and @cozyreadbox When I opened this exquisite book to find it looked authentically like a very old one it sealed the fact that I was judging this book by it’s cover. But would it live up to my expectations? Mercer Jonah Hancock is disturbed one night by urgent knocking at the front door. It is one of his ships’ captains informing him he’s sold his ship for a “mermaid”. Word soon spreads and he decides to show the creature at a coffee house. A move that makes his fortunes turn. When he meets Angelica Neal, a beautiful courtesan and former protogée of Mrs. Chappell, a bawd displaying his mermaid, he is instantly smitten. When she requests a mermaid of her own he doesn’t hesitate to send out a crew to procure what she desires, neither of them knowing that this will have far reaching and life changing repercussions. The book is written in an enchanting, beautiful and lyrical way. The author brought Georgian London to life with a vivid realism thanks to attention to the most minute and unusual details, but it wasn’t until volume two that the pace of the story captivated me. It was also this volume where I became attached to the characters and their fates. As it featured brothels and courtesans there is also some sensuous and erotic storytelling that was at times a little shocking. Many social issues of the time period were also highlighted: hypocrisy, abuses of power, the vulnerability and ownership of women, and how unstable someone’s position in that society could be. The mermaid, who was an enigmatic, elusive, haunting and mystifying creature, was written so that you don’t question her existence and truly believe they can be found amongst the seals in our seas. I enjoyed the chapters dedicated to her narrative. This complex story was full of the wonder, elegance and mystery I anticipated, but it’s slow start meant that it didn’t take my breath away.Nevertheless, it was still a witty, detailed, beautifully written piece of historical fiction that I would recommend.

  • I have the day off today YAY! The girls have gone home (boo) & I'm about to to see my mum... but before I do.. a quick selfie for #thebookstas2018 & the best title goes to.. . . I'm choosing this because (get your tissues ready guys) . . I've been following bookstagram accounts for so long just sitting on the outside feeling like part of the fam but without actually feeling like I could properly join in.. so I changed that and decided to make my own a couple of months ago.. right before uprooting my life 130 miles, starting a new job and moving into my own house with my boyfriend (yay). . I was scared that even when I joined I would still be on the outside.. as you guys on here that have been here a while have already made good friends.. And it's lovely seeing how close everyone is! But I haven't felt like that.. And to all who have welcomed me - love you guys xx . . Two mins before I took this I spilt a whole diffuser on me.. so I smell allllllll flowery. Hoping it doesn't stain everywhere I dropped it all 😂 . . #bookchallenge

  • What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard someone say out loud? . . . My boardmate says "I accidentally picked the nose of the guy beside me on public transpo" like OHMYGOD SERIOUSLY I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD! She unintentionally put her two fingers on both nostrils of her seat mate while untangling her arms from her backpack. After she removed it, her fingers were stuck somewhere 🤔 oh Lord 😮. I wouldn't believe at first, but, it was true 😓 -- Good evening, lovelies! Enjoying the night so far? I'm getting sleepy though. Wish you all a good night. #knygos #books #book #bookworm #booklover #bookstagram #skaitymas #skaitau #reading #instabook #literature #bookish #booklife #read

  • Reposting @the.zyzah review of this anthology Selves which is now available. ・・・ S E L V E S 👫👬👭 . . The title of this book is so apt, I am curious. Did the title come first or was it given after the stories were compiled? There's just something fascinating about the title that made me wonder about the selves I walked past on the street yesterday. What's their story? . . 👫👬👭 Selves is a collection of 24 Creative Nonfiction by African writers. While I couldn't connect with a few, I connected greatly with most of them. Like Adefolami Ademola's story about his inability to keep loving someone, to sustain affection or commit to someone like other people do. Alithnayn Abdulkareem's story about going a route different from what a Muslim "should" be, a different person from what her parents want her to be and how she suffers Muslim Guilt for being this way... . . 👫👬👭 I can't even pick a favourite story. I read Umar Turaki's story twice, I cried the second time. I called my sisters in school after I read Tolu Daniel's story (just read the book to know why), I decided to try to write a creative non-fiction after I read Sibongile Fisher's really beautiful story and I had to google Postpartum depression after reading Megan Ross's story. I realised I knew so little about pregnancy. . . 👫👬👭 These stories were all different but they all came from a passionate place, they all are products of the bravery to speak the truth. I didn't know writing truthfully about a part of oneself could be difficult until I tried to write one. Do I really want people to know this about me? I wasn't sure. The 24 authors and the Team that worked to curate this deserve an outstanding accolades. . . Thanks Basit @selvesanthology for letting me have a copy of this and for even thinking about an anthology about selves. And People, buy this or snatch it from someone. 😁 . . #QOTD "If I must live, it has to be epic, damning odds, no living halfway.." —TJ Benson.

  • One minute review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. If you’re looking for a purely entertaining book with a slow burn romance, this is the book you want to read. But I have to warn you that the writing is really quite annoying at times. It’s highly repetitive and OMG how many times and ways can you describe blue eyes (both lead characters have blue eyes btw) but it moves quickly. I could easily see this as the next @netflix summer romance movie, and I will definitely watch it despite the 3⭐️ rating. This is one of those instances where the movie could be a LOT better than the book! #bookreview

  • Good omens: The nice and accurate prophecies of Agnes Nutter, witch. Best title ever!! My other contenders were love in the time of cholera and the hollow chocolate bunnies of the apocalypse! However, I’m so hyped for the TV series of good omens, I thought it was time to talk about this book again. If I’m feeling sad or in a rut I often turn to this book, you can’t lose with the combination of Gaiman and Pratchett. I have the radio four dramatisation of this on my phone and I listen to that once a year. For this who don’t know the premise to this book the blurb is ... “According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.” . A genuinely funny and heart warming book that makes me laugh out loud throughout. . #thebookstas2018 best title . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instaread #bookish #booknerd #goodomens #bibliophile #booklove #neilgaiman #bookishfeatures #booknerdigans #bookworm #bookslover #igreads #booksofinstagram #bookaholic #instabook #booklife #bookobsessed #bookstagramfeature #fantasy #bookphotography

  • Today's #1000BooksToReadBeforeYouDie is a Baker two-fer: "The Mezzanine" by Nicholson Baker and "Growing Up" by Russell Baker. This will be my last 1,000 Books post for a week while I take a hiatus in paradise (aka Hawaii--so brace yourself for an overabundance of photos of beaches, palm trees, and ocean sunsets). But back to today's #books....I haven't read "The Mezzanine," the 135-page #novel about a man's thoughts as he ascends an escalator (that's the entire plot of the book), but I have read N. Baker's "Human Smoke," which just floored me. R. Baker's #memoir about being raised by his mother has also been on my radar for decades. If I recall, it was one of the first things I bought with my Quality Paperback Book Club way back in 1982. I'd just graduated from high school and was feeling the first throbbings of financial independence. Joining a mail order #bookclub felt like a very adult badge I could wear on my sleeve. At the time, my #library consisted of three books--the introductory volumes you got when you joined the QPBC. "Growing Up" was one of them. Oh, the heady delights of book ownership! I remember looking at that #shelf of three books and saying to myself, "I have a book collection!" The 2018 version of Me, with his library of more than 13,000 books crammed between his house's walls, pats the 1982 Me on the head and says, as if to a child, "That's nice." Still, I never--and you know what I'm going to say, don't you?--read "Growing Up." Both of today's Bakers get gladly tossed in the To-be-read pile. . . #booksbooksbooks #reader #instabook #bookpic #mybooks #bookworm #igreads #booked #instabooks #booklife #readinglife #bookaddict #StillLifeWithBooks #bibliophile #ilovebooks #ilovereading #readthis #fiction #TBRlist #bookstoread #TBRpile
