  • 26-year old face transplant patient reveals new face! He suffered a self-inflicted gunshot to the face in 2016 in a suicide attempt and the damage left him missing most of his lower jaw, nose and all of his teeth except one. He said: “I am so grateful to have a face transplant because it gives me a second chance at life. Even though I’m still recovering and gaining back sensation and mobility, mostly with my lips, I’m still very happy with the results. I have a nose, and a mouth so I’m able to smile, to speak and eat solid foods again.” The procedure was led by a team of more than 100 medical professionals to complete the operation and required the use of 3-D computer surgical planning and a 3-D printed mask of the donor’s face. The patient underwent a 25-hour operation that included transplanting and reconstructing the upper and lower jaw bones, including all 32 teeth and gums, the roof of the mouth, the lower eyelids and cheeks, and the nose and sections of the nasal passages. He has now found a new lease of life. He said: “I’d like to say that there have been so many amazing advances in surgery. I’m living proof of that. But it only happens because of special people like Will (the donor) and his family.”

  • Human face transplant 😱😷 Surgeons, residents, and nurses, suddenly silent, gaze at it in awe as clinic staff, like unusually polite paparazzi, move in with cameras to document it! . . Sixteen hours into a transplant operation at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, surgeons finish the intricate task of removing the face from an organ donor. Awed by the sight and by the gravity of their work, the team falls suddenly silent as staff members document the face in between its two lives. The surgeons would spend 15 more hours attaching the face to Katie Stubblefield.

  • Left ventricular hypertrophy. #anatomy #pathology #autopsyfindings #medstudents #heart Left ventricular hypertrophy is enlargement and thickening of the left ventricle walls. Left ventricular hypertrophy can develop in response to some factor - such as high blood pressure - that causes the left ventricle to work harder. The enlarged heart muscle loses elasticity and eventually may fail to pump with as much force as needed.

  • #mechanicsmonday Squats/Front Squats: Quad or hip dominant? Depends on the loading! Disclaimer:DO NOT GET YOUR EGO BURST OR PANTS ALL BUNCH UP IN A WEDGY! THIS IS JUST MY ANALYSIS OF IT BASED ON PHYSICS, PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOMECHANICS! AFTER ALL THAT IS SAID AND DONE, LISTEN TO YOUR COACH. THEY’RE TRAINING YOU, NOT ME! THIS IS HOW I APPROACH IT WITH MY CLIENTS: TRAINING AND REHAB/POST THERAPY. # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # 1️⃣ Let’s look at the anatomical structure first and foremost. IMO, the most basic thing that is often overlooked is understanding each person’s skeletal and muscular structure. You have to take into consideration the bone structures: femur, head of femur and the iliac bone. This is how you will determine your “depth” and most ideal squat stance. This is key into understanding how YOU will execute the movement. 2️⃣ The muscles that are involve. Because it’s a compound movement, the amount of muscle tissues involve is very complex, so I’ll just tell you some of the major movers: quadriceps, the hamstrings and the glute maximus. The squat is the only exercise where both the agonist and antagonist muscle group work in unison to execute the movement.3️⃣So if we talk in terms of execution, both the quadriceps (rectus femoris) and the hamstrings move together to achieve the flexion and extension of the knee due to their origin and insertion point. 4️⃣The other note is that the glutes are always active throughout the squats. So to say, the “build” glutes, not so much. Let just say, if you want to build glutes, in terms of isolation movment where you can maximize it, then the squat is not the ideal exercise to do it because of the “compound” movements(I’m waiting on every bikini and insta hoe to have a fucking heart attack and the key board warrior to start attacking). In terms of execution, it’s different for each individuals.5️⃣If you look at Sarah when she first started squating, you can see that she has great ankle mobility and she drops fast. Look how far she leans (clam shells) and then when she rises, her hips will lead and then the torso. So this make it a “hip dominant” move, not really! The quads and hamstrings are helping in the hip extension.👇

  • Anatomy Series - Suboccipitals - The suboccipital muscles are a group of four muscles situated underneath the occipital bone. All the muscles in this group are innervated by the suboccipital nerve. They are located within the suboccipital compartment of the neck; deep to the sternocleidomastoid, trapezius, splenius and semispinalis muscles. They collectively act to extend and rotate the head. —————————————— Rectus Capitis Posterior Major —————————————— Origin: Spinous process of C2 vertebrae (axis) - Insertion: Inferior nuchal line of the Occiput - Action: Extension and rotation of the head. - Innervation: Suboccipital nerve (C1) —————————————— Rectus Capitis Posterior Minor —————————————— Origin: Posterior tubercle of the C1 vertebrae (atlas) - Insertion: Inferior nuchal line of the Occiput - Action: Extension of head. - Innervation: Suboccipital nerve (C1) ——————————— Obliquus Capitis Inferior ——————————— Origin: Spinous process of C2 vertebrae (axis) - Insertion: Transverse process of C1 (atlas) - Action: Extension and rotation of the head. - Innervation: Suboccipital nerve (C1) ———————————— Obliquus Capitis Superior ———————————— Origin: Transverse process of C1 (atlas) - Insertion: Between the superior and inferior nuchal lines of the Occiput - Action: Extension of the head - Innervation: Suboccipital nerve (C1)
