Saturday joy to everyone 💜 a few close ups of my freehand hummingbird watercolor sketches with gold acrylic splashes because gold just goes with ruby throated hummingbirds..do you think so too? Reminds me I need to refill their feeders..
If I invite you to my house you will going to have watermelon with a taste of magnolia and hydrangeas 😀

Friends, if you were going to take a painting class from me, what would you like to learn? The emotional healing & spiritual growth aspects of painting, or more about technique, process, materials, etc? Or a combination? There's so much I want to share, but I don't know where to begin 🙃♥️ I so appreciate your help ✨✨✨

Working on some pieces similar to this one in January. Pretty stoked! I illustrated this one earlier this year for @minttradition, a company based in Denver, CO.
So I decided to create a "wrapping the year up" image to show how I've developed from the beginning of the year to now.
Coincidentally, I got my iPad at the end of December, so this coincides with learning to do digital art using Procreate on it and an Apple Pencil.
The image moves left to right, top to bottom on a monthly basis. I am proud to say I had a lot to choose from.
I'm not sharing the very very first image I did on my iPad, but the first one I actually had to develop for use (a design for USD's Three Sisters). The last one is a personal project I just completed yesterday (my new D&D PC... Don't ask--it's setting specific and complicated to explain). ***
I'm enjoying the journey, but it's hard to maintain one's own sense of personal growth--I am now at a stage where I feel everything I'm doing is terrible. I'm taking a self-guided "class" and all the work I'm doing seems rudimentary and stiff, though I know it's all about learning fundamentals and falling down. ***
I'm also learning enough to realize just exactly how far I have to go, and like many of my own Theatre students I'm daunted by the length of the journey ahead. Instead of staring into the abyss, I have to remind myself to enjoy each baby step, to celebrate each pencil stroke, to enjoy the process itself. To set smaller goals and savor the awareness one accumulates as accomplishes them.
So that's what I'm doing with this image: appreciating my own progress. And understanding that it doesn't get easier, it only gets more engaging. The challenges aren't impossible as much as they're compelling and discomfiting, consistently putting me out of my wheelhouse of knowledge. ***
It's like exploring on a hike by yourself--there's a lot to see, that's all. There's no one judging your hiking, so enjoy the views. ***
I'll keep reminding myself of that. :)

Reaching the final stretch... Only a few more days until the craft fair!
What are you smiling for this weekend? What makes you grateful this season?
I'm smiling at unexpectedly having this week off of work. With California not being prepared for heavy rains, we've had some flooding in our city to my benefit. I needed it! 🤗
This is our best Xmas in CA yet, and we're looking forward to the next couple of weeks! No paintings, no paint parties, and not a lot of work to do. 👍🏽
OCEAN OF SILENCE |Confusion said one time, he who says he can and he who says he can’t are both usually right. The thing is, we all have the guts to succeed, but do we all have the guts to fail? It doesn’t matter what made you fall in the first place because life is about taking risks, and risks means you have 50/50 % chance of achieving your goal or fail. You see, for a long time I struggled with fears. I was so scared to fail, to make a fool of myself, to disappoint those around me. Until I decided to stop sabotaging my own goals by turning that fear into courage. The mind is a battlefield, you adapt to your fears because it’s the easy way to not fail yourself or others. There’s no special formula to succeed in life because we all struggle with different things, but the key is to keep pushing forward. I had to evaluated myself, I had to evaluated the situation I was in. I had to take the risk of changing my life completely. I’m re-inventing myself because I can’t be the same person I once was. Things have change, I’m older now, my goals and perspectives have changed. This year have brought so much opportunity to my life. Doors that I thought could never open are opening. I thought I was drowning. I thought I would died in the submersion of my fears, but I’m not. I’m using exert force to take myself out of the hole of darkness and despair. I’m setting myself free, I’m no longer unobstructed. #lifethroughmyeyes#writing#inspired#tattooed#bluehair#thoughts#instawriters#jellyfish#conceptualphotography#inspiration#inspiración#blue#selfportrait#autoretrato#saturdayvibes#conceptualartist#fotografiaconceptual#sandiegoartist#sandiegoartists
