#Mawlynnong – #God’s #Own#Garden
Mawlynnong or Mawlynnong Village is located in the East #Khasi#Hills of #Meghalaya. It is often referred as ‘God’s own garden’ and is said to be the #cleanest#village in #Asia. This village is known for its cleanliness and its entire community is based upon #eco- #tourism initiative. Mawlynnon offers picturesque #natural#beauty, trek to the living root bridge. It also offers a sight of natural balancing rock, which is a strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. The saying " Neighbours envy, owner's pride” is most apt for Mawlynnong as it has earned it name of being one of the #cleanest#villages in #Asia.
Mawlynnong, located in the east Khasi hills of Meghalaya, has a record of being 'the cleanest village of Asia'.For the villagers, cleanliness has not only been a tradition but also a way of life. The living root bridges, balancing rocks, love for rural India and the yearning to be with the khasi locals made me visit and spend time at this extremely beautiful village of the country..
Dawki is a small border town along the India-Bangladesh border in the west Jaintia hills. This place is famous for the stunning Umngot River which is considered as one of the clearest rivers in India.Shnongpdeng is a highly recommended place to witness the beauty of this river (as Dawki would be too crowded), more so, for those who look forward to camping in front of the river.
PS: More details will be up in my blog shortly.
Grow your roots so strong and impactful that your presence will be cherished for centuries to pass by.
LIVING ROOT BRIDGE (SINGLE DECKER)
In the depths of North East India, bridges aren't built, they are GROWN!
The tribes of Southern Meghalaya saw roots of rubber tress grow in right direction and with the aid of different strategies like tying, twisting, merging or simply pulling the roots form desired architectural structures which helped them cross rivers.
These roots grow till date and strengthen the bridge day by day.
This particular bridge is about 500 years old and can weigh around 50 people at a time!
