  • I was originally just going to caption this “going back to Tulum, yay!”, but that’s basic & lame AF. I’m supposed to be helping you travel, so I’m going to do just that. • We are spontaneous & we don’t like planning things haha. My mental illness doesn’t like fully planned trips that’s are 3-6 months away. I would say that 75% of mine & Ben’s trips are actually fairly spontaneously planned 3-6 WEEKS beforehand. Kinda like how we’re randomly going to Tulum in less than 6 weeks. • “bUt hOw dO yOu aFfOrD tHiS”. Several ways & I’m going to share them! • 1️⃣SAVINGS. The most important factor is that Ben & I have a travel budget. An exact amount gets saved per paycheck for travel specifically (open a travel savings account immediately) & we always have money set aside for travel, as it’s important to us. The less we travel, the more we are able to save for the big trips. 2️⃣ CREDIT. We book our travel on credit cards to get hotel & airline points (we get a couple free stays/flights a year just from our travel purchases). But the NUMBER ONE RULE: we NEVER book a trip if we don’t have the money to pay for it without credit cards. We pay our travel cards off almost immediately, assuming we stay in budget (that’s that hard part). 3️⃣ PROXIMITY. If you’re planning a last minute trip & you don’t have an endless supply of money, you can’t go too far. Living in NV means being extra close to Mexico & flights are cheap. Look at a map & try to keep the total travel time under 10 hours. If you live on the east coast, your options are wildly different from ours over here. 4️⃣ CLIMATE. Once you have your proximity narrowed down, what type of weather do you want to be in? It’s cold here in the NV mountains. So we wanted to go somewhere warm. Y’all know how I feel about bikinis by now. 5️⃣ LODGING. This comes down to your budget. Try to find a hotel or Airbnb that lets you pay 50% at booking, 50% at check in/out (most of them do). Being able to break the payment up saves your ass, and can actually allow you to stay somewhere a little cooler than if you had to pay upfront all at once. • Hope this helps someone! I’ll fully expand on all of this on the blog if you wish!

  • Swipe for before🤗📸 • We’ve been perfecting these presets, testing, tweaking over & over. I wanted to make sure we really dialed in our creative style/flow prior to releasing anything. • Note: I almost always edit raws on my iPad Pro, as I have a CC subscription (it’s not expensive & I highly suggest it). Lightroom mobile is free & doesn’t require a subscription, but you’re limited to editing jpegs for the most part, which is fine! All that means is a more compressed file with less data to edit. But if you mostly take pictures for Instagram, the photo isn’t large enough for anyone to notice. Not to mention, Instagram compresses it. • We are starting out with Lightroom Mobile presets, as I’m not sure we have a place selling desktop presets. Furthermore, we really only ever use desktop if doing work for someone else. These aren’t really geared for photographers per se, as that’s not our demographic. We are here to help you travel & help you document it. Part of documenting it, is creatively expressing yourself through photo. These presets are to help you learn how to edit & navigate Lightroom (they are fully customizable after you apply them to the photo, it’s not a “filter”). So if you like the #ontherodepresets editing style & you would like a similar starting place to create your own style, we got you. You’ll be able to see how we adjust light, color, & every feature in Lightroom. • If you’re interested, but not familiar with Lightroom, I would down the app now & start familiarizing yourself with it! That will make navigating the presets a little easier. I’ll be posting tutorials once the presets drop as well.❤️ • Soon. 📸 @benharclerode

  • As many of you know, I’m an avid backpacker & outdoorswoman. And because of this, I’m also the co-founder of @ellosupplyco aka #GoTheFuckOutside. As ELLO undergoes a major rebrand & rebirth, I wanted to share my WHY behind the above two facts. So I made a video with @chlojonsson with the help of @nicholasastanton. Link in bio. • The WHY comes down to the fact that I’m a bisexual recovering addict who suffers from mental illness. Nature has literally saved my life from myself on numerous occasions. And because of this, all I care about is getting people like myself the fuck outside. I started this company to give back what nature gave to me, to as many people as possible. Because it works. • If you have 8 free minutes to spare today, do me a solid & watch the video. Especially if you suffer from addiction, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, or any of the other conditions that millions of humans suffer from. Let’s normalize this shit.

  • Traveling alone is one of my FAVORITE things. I have learned more about myself on solo trips to Europe & Australia than I learned about myself in all of college. • While solo travel is important for personal growth & self discovery, traveling with companions is also important. Why? Because experiences are more memorable when you’re surrounded by people to share them with. Traveling with others allows you to attach people whom you care about to the experience. It’s also the number one way to strength a relationship (speaking from loads of experience). I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’m closest to the people I travel with. • It’s not easy to find good travel buddies. You need to find people who are at your level. People with similar interests. People with a similar budget. People who aren’t overly cautious but also aren’t overly reckless. People who are ok with being uncomfortable. People with an unquenchable thirst for adventure. • Thanks for trusting me on all our adventures over the years @kelskiel @myactiveroots. • Photo taken at @azuliktulum in @tulum

  • Happy Thanksgiving. It’s rainy here, so I’m sending out some bikini Bali vibes today. Everyone seems to like me be better in a bikini (unless we are talking about this specific bikini, but let’s leave the male opinion of high waisted shit out of this), which works great since I like me better in a bikini... 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 • Today I’m thankful for all of you allowing my to express myself on this app. Today I’m thankful for all of your support through the good & the bad over the years. Today I’m thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given to travel the world. Today I’m thankful for a platform to share myself & my art. Today I’m thankful for unquenchable thirst for adventure. Today I’m thankful I finally stopped being afraid to share my photography of other people. • I’m especially thankful for my patience (and yours) as I built this website. I’m only familiar with Wordpress & SquareSpace, so switching over to Showit is heavy stuff & there was quite the leaning curve at first. But I only ever demand the best from myself, so I had to commit to something geared more toward the creative. I originally planned on launching today, but I’m going to let perfect be the enemy of good & wait. I have two domestic trips happening in the next 30 days & I would really like the opportunity to create some very specific content before launch. • Love you guys. Hug your friends & family today. Please don’t drink & drive.

  • In the field of quantum mechanics there is something called quantum entanglement. It is what happens when two particles interact, vibrate in unison, and are separated. They remain connected by something that defies logic, something science has yet to explain. If one particle vibrates, no matter the distance, the other part reacts in unison. Even if there are oceans between them, even if there is a universe separating them. • Before time, we were just a dense collection of particles, confined to a space smaller than a proton, interacting and moving in unison. An event occurred that rapidly expanded the particles and created the universe. There is no reason to believe the particles ever lost their entanglement. • Now, when I say I am drawn to you, that I feel I have known you since the beginning of time, know that it’s beyond my control. Know there are particles that compose me, my very fabric of being, and somewhere inside of you are the particles mine danced with millions of years ago. I’ve spent an eternity chasing every part of you. • Some of my favorite words by @tylerkentwhite
